Quick info
About The Nines
The Nines is a halal restaurant at 9 London Rd in Derby, serving sushi and hot dishes from a single menu. Dragon Rolls and a Meat and Sushi platter sit beside chicken tikka, so one kitchen covers both styles. Breakfast and brunch are served too, and lamb and steak mains round out the list. The restaurant is open daily. It holds no alcohol licence, so drinks are mocktails, alcohol-free beer and soft drinks.

Customer Review Summary
Shared platters anchor the praise, with one diner calling The Nines Mixed Platter fabulous for its masala fries, chicken wings and firecracker chicken, and a group of six choosing the Meat and Sushi platter. Mocktails come close behind, described as excellent in both taste and appearance. Others single out lamb shank, lamb chops and chicken tikka as tender and generously portioned, along with Eggs Royale at brunch, excellent Dragon Rolls, and a paneer starter with spinach curry. Servers are repeatedly called friendly, attentive and quick. The criticism centers on the main menu. One reviewer found the chicken Parmesan drenched in sriracha mayo that masked the marinade, and a companion's medium well steak was tough and chewy. A loyal breakfast customer found a later main menu meal disappointing. Drinks draw complaints too: there is no licence, so only alcohol free Peroni is served, and soft drinks were limited to Coca-Cola brands. Reviewers also mention traffic noise on the terrace and loud music inside. One diner who was not offered coffee after the meal went next door to Costa.

“Very delicious, yummy food and really big portions. We had lamb shank, lamb chops, sirloin steak and chicken tikka. All meat very tender. Great decoration inside the restaurant and fab music. Easy to talk. Yummy mocktails. Thank you Zahra to look after us😊Highly recommended 👌”

“Excellent Dragon Rolls. No licence, so only alcohol free beer (Peroni - not bad to be fair), soft drinks etc. Service ok. Weren't offered coffees after our meal so went next door to Costa. Music a bit loud inside, but too smoky to sit outside.”

“Visited for the first time with a friend and we had brunch. I had Eggs Royale and my friend has Avo on toast. Dishes are well priced and the food was delicious. Loved the decor and seating inside. The outdoor terrace looked nice but there was a lot of noise made by the traffic. Casey, our waitress was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend this place.”

“The managers set the tone right away. Every visit starts with a genuine welcome that makes you feel like a regular, even on your first time. Shoutout to waiter Zahra – attentive, quick, and never without a smile. She knew the menu inside out and timed everything perfectly without hovering. That kind of service elevates the whole meal. Exquisite and delicious isn’t an exaggeration here. Flavors are balanced, plating is thoughtful, and portions hit that sweet spot between generous and refined. Every dish we tried was cooked with real care. Right in the heart of Derby city, so it’s easy to get to whether you’re shopping, catching a show, or making a night of it. I’ll definitely be back again. The Nines nails the combo of warm hospitality, top-tier service, and food worth talking about.”

“I went on a Thursday night on my own as I was in Derby for work. It was very quiet and only had a few people. The staff were very friendly and the food was very nice. I would happily visit again and will recommend to anyone else travelling to the office. My waitress was Zahra. I had the paneer starter and the spinach curry. Unfortunately I couldn't eat it all, I should have just had a main.”
