About Cafe Villabella

On Babington Lane in Derby, Cafe Villabella spreads across three floors, with an upstairs terrace and balcony seating and two separate bars, one on the ground floor and one on the second floor. The kitchen serves oven baked jacket potatoes in a bowl with fillings such as tuna and sweetcorn or chilli con carne with cheese, alongside a ham and cheese toastie served with coleslaw and baguettes brought out on a wire rack with crisps. Lattes, milkshakes, and deluxe hot chocolates round out the drinks menu. Staff bring orders to the table rather than calling customers to a counter. The entrance is step-free and wheelchair-accessible, high chairs are available for families with young children, and dogs are welcome inside. It opens daytime only, Monday to Saturday, closed on Sundays, and reservations are recommended.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers consistently return for the jacket potatoes, especially the cheese and beans and the tuna and sweetcorn versions, served in generous bowls that several call great value. Close behind is the Italian coffee and latte, praised repeatedly as rich and authentic, alongside the deluxe white hot chocolate one couple called the best they'd had. Others single out the prawn and tuna salad and the ham and cheese toastie with fried egg. The three-storey Mediterranean-style decor draws frequent comparisons to the Amalfi Coast or Capri, and diners describe the staff as friendly and attentive even during busy group bookings, with one recalling a server bringing a cushion and small gifts for children. One reviewer's only complaint was wishing the cafe opened Sundays and offered croissants. Several reviewers mention returning again and again after their first visit.

“First time coming into Café Villabella and I really enjoyed it. The staff were lovely, really friendly and accommodating, and made my latte just how I like it. The place was very clean, had a great atmosphere, and the food was absolutely delicious. Everyone was smiling, polite, and had a little joke with you, which made it feel really welcoming. Really nice experience and I’ll definitely be back.”

“I attended a brunch arranged for a group of South African ladies and it was my first time. The venue itself looks AMAZING inside and I was shocked to see it's 3 stories high! It's well decorated and looked clean and gave a true Spanish villa vibe - I loved it! The service was beyond amazing! You can understand the staff looking after grown ups, but the staff here looked after our kids table just as attentively as ours! I saw a gentleman bring a cushion for one of my daughters then as we were leaving my youngest showed me a bucket of pebbles he'd brought her too. Every time he'd bring someone a drink or food, he'd check the rest of us were OK or if we needed anything. He was just LOVELY as well! Friendly and caring and generally nice. And considering how busy it was - the food came out relatively fast. The food...YUM!!! I ordered 2 jacket potatoes - tuna and sweetcorn and a chilli con carne with cheese, a ham and cheese toastie with a side of coleslaw and a chicken and ham baguette with lettuce. The food all came well presented - jackets came in a beautiful bowl and the portions were not stingy - baguette came on a wire rack with crisps - and the toastie on a side plate with a ramekin of coleslaw. The milkshakes looked amazing too and my latte was delicious! I didn't get any photos as I was meeting the ladies for the first time and didn't want to be distracted but I'll be going back so will get some photos then.”

“Me and my partner went on a day out in derby and near the end of it we decided to pop in for an unwind as it started to get a bit drizzly outside. We were welcomed into a warm and inviting atmosphere with gorgeous decor. It felt so cosy here! We weren't peckish but they had plenty of food options- so instead we had two deluxe white hot chocolates and they were by far the best we have ever had! They were so so very rich and creamy! Left us feeling very warmed up and contented. Brilliant place to stop by for a breather! We also have sent something over to your instagram that we think you might be interested in as a token of our appreciation for our visit! 🙌🏻”

“My go to cafe for price, music, decor, friendly staff and atmosphere. The cafe is central to Derby Centre. The front window does not give this cafe a good impression but when inside you will not be disappointed. The food is great, wonderful atmosphere, music and decor, prices are brilliant and staff are outstanding. Please give this cafe a try and you will see what I mean. Brilliant keep up the good work guys. Just been awarded the winner of the best cafe by the Food and Drinks standards.”
