About The Goat & Boot
The Goat & Boot is a pub on East Hill in Colchester, housed in a Grade II listed building with parts dating back to the 1400s. The frontage looks small, but the interior opens up into a spacious room. The kitchen makes its food in house, including köfte, homemade meatballs served with hummus, mixed salad, yogurt relish and chips. Apple crumble covers dessert, and a Sunday roast is part of the menu. The bar pours cocktails alongside a wide selection of drinks, including Guinness. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the homemade meatballs, served with hummus, mixed salad, yogurt relish and chips, and praised for their smoky char and local meat. Close behind are the apple crumble and a Mother's Day roast that everyone in one party loved. The cocktails and a Guinness with a velvet texture also draw praise. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and welcoming, and the beer garden with covered seating is a regular mention, as is the roomy interior. The main complaint is the burgers and pies. One couple found their burgers oily and almost cold, with chips heavy on salt and pepper. Another found a steak pie of minced meat with microwave mash, tinned mushy peas and frozen onion rings, and both felt the food was poor value, even as they called the staff lovely. A couple of reviewers did not try the food at all and came for the drinks and the welcome. One recalls a server handing treats to their dog in the garden and stopping for a chat.

“Popped in for a beer and some food as reviews were good we were really hungry after a 3 and a half hour drive both had the steak pie which was minced meat and really poor the mash was microwave mash and the mushy peas clearly tinned we ordered the side of onion rings at £6.50 there frozen bagged onion rings absolutely shocking price for that staff were lovely but don’t bother eating”

“Just popped into the goat whilst waitin on our goat from across the road. Server Omar very quick to give the dog some treats and had time for a chat in the garden. Really nice beer garden with ample seating including under cover areas. Nice, pleasant pub. Outside size is deceptive as it opens up plenty inside.”

“Nice cozy little pub. Customer service was excellent. First time trying food here. Two burger and chips meals. The burgers were not great they were almost cold ,they were oily and the quality wasn’t good for the price, £13.50 for a meal wasn’t worth it in my opinion. Chips were made from fresh potato which is great but they were covered in salt and pepper. A bit too much salt. It was a let down for the price.”

“I came from London for a daily visit with my family. This pub is an absolute marvel. Guinness — texture like a velvet storm. Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and absolute balance. Homemade meatballs (köfte), expertly grilled with a perfect blend of smoky char and traditional spices — indeed a sensory symphony. It is served with humus, mixed salad, yogurt relish and crispy chips, a rich delicacy. Historical atmosphere, friendly staff, care and hospitality find you at the door. Thanks to Batu and Bahar. Beautiful garden, spacious car park.”
