Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return to the Sunday roast, with the trio roast and a lamb special singled out as outstanding, and the roast beef and chicken also praised. One reviewer found the potatoes not crispy but full of flavour, and the tiramisu and a crispy duck salad get specific mentions. Steaks are described as cooked perfectly in one account. Service is the other recurring draw: several describe waitresses who were attentive, polite and patient, handling a party of 23, getting a large family's meals and desserts out together, and even settling an unhappy baby so the parents could eat. A wedding reception in the orangery, with guests praising the roast, also earns warm thanks. The one sharply negative account describes a vegetarian main that never arrived because the order was not put through, a medium-rare steak that came dry and overcooked, frozen-tasting calamari, and cutlery arriving after the food. Another notes there was no phone service. Several staff are credited for helping with a WiFi issue and giving no pressure to hurry a late-arriving guest.

“Lunch with my wife and 1 year old daughter. Char served us. We were struggling with a very unhappy baby and char had taken her and got her to sleep and allowed me and wife to eat. She was so amazing. Polite, cared about everyone. Nobody she served went without and we was all discussing how lovely she was. We had 2 steaks and they were cooked perfectly. The restaurant was busy and no matter how many tables she had she was fully attentive to us the entire time. Served us with a smile and helped us with our baby. We are first time parents and these things aren’t forgotten when somebody helps like that. We’ve been blown away all day and I have to give her feedback We will be back.”

“We had a large group booking on Sunday 27th Sept for a family member's 30th birthday. We were seated in the area down the steps to the right of the bar which was perfect. They'd arranged the area to accommodate us all and suggested the children sitting together, which worked perfectly. We were allocated Skye as our waitress and she was fantastic. I'm not sure how but she managed to cope with all 23 of us, adults and children, but she was calm, patient, friendly and professional at all times and worked so hard, nothing was too much trouble, she deserves a pay rise!”

“Louise was our waitress today and was very helpful and attentive. Polite and able to assist with an issue I had with WiFi. The food me and my friends had was also very delicious. The crispy duck salad was fantastic.”

“We had such a wonderful meal at the King William in Chigwell today. From the moment we arrived, everything was fantastic. The food was fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully cooked, making for a really enjoyable lunch. A special thank you to Ioana, who provided exceptional service throughout our visit. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. Her genuine smile and attention to detail really stood out and made our experience even more memorable. It’s rare to receive such warm and professional service, and Ioana is a real credit to the King William. We left feeling thoroughly looked after and can’t wait to come back. Highly recommended!”

“Absolutely terrible experience from start to finish. The customer service was awful. We ordered two starters and two mains, but one of the vegetarian mains never arrived because the bartender simply failed to put the order through. The bartender also didn’t seem to know what beers were available on draft. We asked for an IPA, and he pointed us to the bottled beers. We actually had to tell him that BrewDog IPA was on draft. The food was just as disappointing. The £30 steak was ordered medium-rare but arrived extremely dry and overcooked. The calamari was clearly frozen and lacked any freshness. To make matters worse, our cutlery didn’t arrive until around 5 minutes after the food was served. The waitress looked exhausted and completely uninterested in providing any level of service. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had. Poor customer service, poor communication, and disappointing food. We definitely won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend this place.”
