Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return mostly for the Thai food upstairs, with the papaya salad, chicken wings and chilli lamb with jasmine rice named as favourites, and one calling the Thai dishes the best part of a family visit. Close behind are the sushi menu, including the sushi monster roll, and the choice between Thai and Japanese dishes. Downstairs, diners mention live sport on the TVs, a good selection of drinks and a delicious lager, and the fries arrive piping hot and generous. Staff are described as friendly, and the QR code ordering and tray delivery system get a mention. The caveats are mixed. One reviewer found the pad ke mao with beef all chilli and no flavour, with tough beef, and another said the beef noodle dish was less enjoyable and the food was nice but not worth returning for. A longtime regular reports that after receiving a sushi roll with cooked salmon, the manager seemed unwilling to help, and says a two piece salmon nigiri would have settled it, so they will no longer visit.

“Really don’t want to write this review, but unfortunately my experience tonight has warranted it. Previous to tonight’s visit, after moving to the area around 3 months ago I had been visiting at least twice a week, either for a few drinks or a full meal and drinks. Always had no issues but, on Friday I had come in for dinner and drinks with my partner, we ordered our usual starters and drinks, but I had wanted to try something different for our main course. Accidentally, I had not realised one our main course which was a ‘sushi monster roll’ contained cooked salmon, which is not what I wanted to eat in sushi. I only realise this mistake when the food arrived, after finding this out I had spoken to one of the Thai food team members who pointed me in the direct of the drinks bar where I spoke to the manager on duty (who’s name was jack i believe) I spoke to jack about the issue of the cooked salmon roll and from the outset of the conversation it felt like he had already made his mind up that he didn’t want to help me, because he was confrontation and absolutely didn’t want to hear what I had to say. I wasn’t looking for a refund of the dish or anything like that, it he had offered me a 2 piece salmon nigiri (around £6) I would have said that’s absolutely fine and returned the cooked salmon roll to him no issues. But, as I said unfortunately I don’t feel as the issue was resolved in a way which is best for both parties. I’ve now lost my local pub (as I won’t be spending anymore of my money here) and rusty bike has now lost a loyal customer who lives a 5 min walk away. In my eyes it seems like a lose lose situation over what could have been sorted out very easily and efficiently. If we was eating at a restaurant of which there was a dedicated waiter to the section I don’t believe this would have ever come to this point. But again, here we are. A lost loyal customer.”

“This is an hosted to my previous review, now i have been here a few times with my Thai girl friend. Even when this pub is busy, usually after 7pm some nights, it is a warm and friendly place to relax, enjoy a relaxing drink and some excellent thai food. The staff are friendly and very easy to talk with. They are helpful and can advise on what you are seeking. It is very much an old school atmosphere. The furnishings are clean and well maintained and there are seating arrangements for multiple numbers, ranging from 1 or 2 to as many as the staff can push tables together for. The food, Thai wise as that's all I've eaten so far, is excellent, and that's rated by my Thai friend. It is also encouraging to see Asian purple working on the food side too. The menu is a extensive as anyone would need. The prices are very reasonable also.”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely fantastic experience at The Rusty Bike in Chingford! The atmosphere is warm, lively, and super welcoming the perfect place to relax, enjoy great company, and unwind. But the real highlight is the Thai food… WOW. Every dish is bursting with flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care and authenticity. Fresh ingredients, perfect balance of spices, and generous portions honestly some of the best Thai food I’ve had in London. The staff are friendly, attentive, and make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. Great drinks, great vibes, and incredible food what more could you want? Highly recommended… I’ll definitely be coming back again and again! Ahhhh the best! PET FRIENDLY! The best in town!”
