About Ye Olde Rose & Crown
Ye Olde Rose & Crown is a traditional pub at 53 Hoe St in London, with a studio theatre upstairs, live music and a pool table. The upstairs theatre space means a night out here can include a show, and bands play live as well. The bar pours cask ales and locally sourced lagers and ales, plus a vegan beer, and it hosts beer festivals. In the kitchen, rotating chefs run the food menu, with Roasts on Sundays and fish and chip suppers. Sofas, a brighter front and a darker area at the back give the room a few different places to sit. Dogs are welcome, and the pub is open daily. Community adverts, posters and flyers are displayed inside.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come above all for the beer, praising a wide range of cask ales and local brews, including an Extra Strong Bitter from Three Legs Brewery, a pillars India pale lager, a porter made with locally grown hops, and even vegan beer. Craft beer and cocktails also draw praise, and several call the prices reasonable. Close behind is the pub's community role: live bands, beer festivals and a small theatre upstairs, alongside cosy sofas and a mixed crowd of ages. Food earns good mentions too, from rotating chefs serving Afro-Caribbean dishes and Sunday roasts to fish and chip suppers, and staff are described as friendly and helpful. The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the gents' toilets foul and blocked and said a band played in near blackout with only a few wall lights. Another noted the bartenders did not seem to know the show lineup, and one regrets there is no beer garden, only a few benches facing the road. One reviewer who went upstairs heard a folk troupe sing sad songs about a fishing accident that killed 58 men.

“Good selection of beers and a learning lesson. I never knew vegan beer was a thing. Bright spacious interior with gloomy bit at the back so something for everyone. They have live bands and a theatre above the pub.”

“Came to “see” Amy Bird and the band. Sound was great. Beer was great. Service was great. Amy and the band were brilliant! Sadly the gents’ toilets were foul and blocked and the band performed in almost total blackout apart from a few wall lights behind them. It was like watching one of those BGT “Silhouette” acts…”

“Great old skool boozer with great modernselection of locally sourced lagers and ales (pillars India pale lager and some WBB porter that uses locally grown hops…) prices very reasonable and fairly busy with a diverse mix of clientele (age and sex etc. - not just an old man’s pub) had live music on when I went and there were people eating fish and chip suppers in there.”

“A great local pub that serves a nice selection of well kept cask ales. The prices are reasonable and they regularly hold beer festivals . There is love music and other community based projects going on so it's certainly an interesting pub. Traditional interior nothing fancy and all the better for it. Long may it last. Highly recommended”
