Customer Review Summary
Brunch draws the most mentions, with reviewers describing an omelette in a generous portion, yoghurt and fruit with tasty granola, maple bacon and iced coffee, all fresh and hot. Close behind is the Sunday roast, where one longtime Cardiff diner praises tender lamb, rich gravy and homemade Yorkshire puddings. Lunch and dinner earn credit too, including a sea bass salad one regular orders repeatedly, a light and crispy chicken starter, a flavourful mushroom starter and the burger. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and one family with a coeliac daughter found plenty of gluten free options. Portions are described as fair for the price. Complaints are minor: one diner found the cod with peanut sauce overloaded and wanting a third component on the plate, and another found the toilets awkward and in need of care. One pair was pleasantly surprised when a 2for1 brunch offer appeared on their bill.

“The Brook Bistro in Whitchurch is a truly delightful restaurant and one that deserves sincere praise. Having lived in Cardiff for over 45 years and enjoyed dining out regularly, I have often searched for a Sunday lunch that genuinely reflects the comfort, care, and flavour of a traditional home-cooked roast. While many restaurants have come close, there has usually been a small detail missing—whether it be gravy without enough depth, roast potatoes lacking the perfect crispness, or the absence of much-loved accompaniments such as roasted parsnips. The Brook Bistro, however, delivered the complete experience beautifully. From the very first bite, the meal had the warmth and quality of a carefully prepared family roast. Every element was executed with thought and skill: rich, flavoursome gravy, homemade Yorkshire puddings, beautifully tender lamb, and generous portions that felt both hearty and well balanced. The service was equally commendable, with staff who were attentive, welcoming, and genuinely pleased to ensure guests felt well looked after. Overall, The Brook Bistro offered a memorable dining experience that combined excellent food with genuine hospitality. It is certainly a restaurant I would recommend highly to anyone who appreciates a truly satisfying Sunday lunch.”

“Celebrated a relatives 80th birthday at the bistro and couldn’t fault it. The food and atmosphere were superb and the staff were fantastic. Our waiter (Craig) couldn’t do enough for us and was amazing with the kids. Our daughter is Coeliac and there were plenty of gluten free options to choose from. Thank you to everyone who made our visit so special. We’ll definitely be back!!”

“Popped in last night for dinner as we couldn't be bothered cooking. The staff they have there are EXCEPTIONAL. Service is quick, genuinely friendly, and efficient. It set the tone for a lovely evening. The menu has a good variety without being overwhelming and is priced fairly for the size and quality of portion. Beautifully decorated creating a lovely atmosphere, lighting just right to feel cosy but not needing a torch to get around. The food was delicious, hot and fresh across all 3 courses. I had the cod with peanut sauce which I do feel could do with half the amount of sauce and a third component on the plate to balance things out, but nonetheless it was flavourful and filling. Just a perfect good excuse to go back and try something else, which we will definitely be doing. Brook Bistro have got the whole thing spot on - well done!!!”
