About Curry Hut Cardiff
On Salisbury Rd in Cardiff, Curry Hut Cardiff is a Sri Lankan restaurant with a menu of 185 dishes spanning Sri Lankan, South Indian and Kerala cooking. That range lets one table order across three regional styles in a single meal. Kottu roti, appam and parotta are among the dishes on offer, so the breads and griddle plates sit alongside the curries rather than as an afterthought. The kitchen also covers Sri Lankan street food. Customer Review Summary
Kottu is the dish diners name most, from a Chicken Dolphin Kottu a weekly regular orders to egg kothu and vegetarian kothu, though one reviewer found their koththu decent but not outstanding. Masala dosa, polos curry, pittu with kadalai curry, idiyappam and a creamy vanilla milkshake also earn praise, and one diner calls the chicken devil and biryani combo to die for. Positive reviewers describe the food as authentic, well spiced and freshly cooked, with friendly, welcoming staff and prompt service. Biryani is where the sharpest complaints land. One reviewer found it lacking authentic taste, and another says it tasted like chicken popcorn mixed into rice, with only four tiny pieces of chicken. Two reviewers report chicken with a strange, strong smell, one likening it to dried fish, and both describe staff as dismissive or rude when they raised it. One of them says they reported the matter to food safety authorities. Another reviewer called the seats disgusting. One family says most of their large order was thrown away.

“Had a big hope on having some flavorful Sri Lankan street food but was disappointed because the biriyani was not giving any authentic taste at all and the mixed fried rice too. Food is not very tasty at all. The seats were very disgusting. And the staff was not very professional at all. I do not recommend this place”

“Worst dining experience ever. I’m writing this review while still at the restaurant because of how disappointed we are. We ordered biryani, fried rice, and chilli chicken. Unfortunately, the chicken tasted very strange and had an unpleasant smell, which raised serious concerns about its freshness and quality. When we brought this to the staff’s attention, the response was unprofessional and dismissive, which made the situation even worse. Based on this experience, I have genuine concerns regarding hygiene, health, and food safety standards. Very poor customer service and overall a highly disappointing experience. I would not recommend this place.”

“Extremely disappointing experience. The staff were very rude, unprofessional, and showed no respect when we raised concerns about the food. The chicken tasted very and had a strong smell similar to dried fish. We ordered a lot of food for our family, but most of it had to be thrown away because we did not feel comfortable eating it. It was a complete waste of money.Due to our serious concerns about the freshness and quality of the food, we have reported this incident to the local Food Safety authorities for investigation. We will not be returning and would not recommend this restaurant.”

“Service was very good, the staff were friendly and constantly checking on customers to make sure everyone was comfortable and had everything they needed. It felt like they genuinely cared about looking after their guests. Another great thing was the waiting time. Our food arrived quite quickly, so we didn’t have to wait long at all, which made the experience even better. I ordered koththu, and it was decent the taste was good and enjoyable, though not the most outstanding dish I’ve ever had. But the real highlight for me was the vanilla milkshake. it was so good! Creamy, sweet, and perfectly balanced. Honestly, it was one of the best milkshakes I’ve had in a long time and definitely something I would go back for. Overall, a great place with good service, quick food, and an amazing milkshake. I’d happily visit again.”
