About Quantum Coffee Roasters

Quantum Coffee Roasters is a family-owned coffee shop at 58 Bute St in Cardiff, roasting its beans by hand in Cardiff Bay. The Tiger Bay blend anchors the coffee, and a V60 brew bar lets customers ask a barista which beans are currently on offer. The team sources from small farmers and sustainable farms where it can. The menu runs to 28 items, including cold brew with a nitro option, matcha drinks and fruit blends such as the Mango Dream. Bags of beans are sold on a retail shelf for brewing at home. Tables suit a catch-up with friends or a few hours of laptop work, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the coffee itself, with several calling it fresh, one of the best they have had, and "bang in the sweet spot," neither bitter nor sour. Close behind are friendly baristas, and the iced matcha latte, matcha coffee and Nitro Cold Brew get named as favourites. Also mentioned are a vegan Biscoff latte, an Americano, a vegan pistachio muffin, a blueberry muffin and a smoothie. Several describe the space as cosy and relaxed, and a few say it suits chatting with friends or getting work done. One reviewer found the filter coffee a little weak, with only a single Yunnan option on offer, and another called the options somewhat limited. The one sharply negative review describes a silent welcome, being told to sit down and wait, an order shouted across the room, a question about whether the tea should come with milk, and sticky tables. Others describe a visit where the oat milk was steamed to the right temperature, the service never felt rushed, and the coffee was the same on a second day with different baristas.

“Goat-Herding Service and Table Glue: A Proper Bay Disaster I popped in here for a brew, expecting a bit of Cardiff Bay class, but I honestly think I’ve had a warmer welcome from a rainy Tuesday in Merthyr. The two on duty were a proper pair of silent drags. I’ve seen more life in a stuffed dragon at a gift shop. There were only six people in the place, but you’d swear they were managing the crowds at the Principality on a match day the way they were acting. I stood where any normal human waits for a coffee, only for the man behind the counter who clearly went to the "School of Zero Empathy"—to tell me to go sit down and he’d call me. When the order was ready, he didn't just call it; he let out a shout of "ONE TEA AND CAPPUCCINO!" like he was herding goats up up the Garth. I nearly jumped out of my skin. Then came the interrogation. He asked if I wanted milk with my tea like it was a rare Welsh gold nugget he was handing over. We’re in Wales, mun! If you serve tea without milk here, you’re basically committing a national offence. To top it off, the tables were so sticky I nearly became a permanent fixture of the furniture. I’d have asked them to wipe it, but I didn't want to interrupt their busy schedule of doing absolutely nothing. As for a bid farewell on the way out? You’ve got to be joking. I’ve had more chat out of a Cardiff bus stop. Fair play, the coffee was alright, but the service was about as useful as a solar-powered torch in a coal mine. Lush decor, shame about the attitude. Verdict: If you want to be barked at while sitting at a sticky table, this is the spot for you. Otherwise, keep walking!”
