Customer Review Summary

Beef stew and goulash anchor the praise for this Hungarian restaurant, described as rich, with red wine gravy and tender chunks of beef, and several reviewers call the food authentic and delicious. Close behind are the sauerkraut pork, the lángos starter and the pickles, with poppy seed cake and custard for dessert. Reviewers also single out the palinka and plum liquor, a long wine list that includes Bulls blood, and huge portions. Visitors who know Hungarian cooking say the dishes taste like those back home, and diners describe a cosy, traditional room with friendly staff who explain the menu. One party noted bill shock after ordering many palinkas, the only complaint raised. Several describe the family running the place as welcoming, and one group of seven booked last minute, had extra tables pushed together, and stayed chatting long after closing without being rushed.

“Absolutely lovely place! The food was delicious, really tasty and full of flavour, and all the meat was lovely and fresh. The restaurant itself is really cosy and beautifully decorated too. We booked quite last minute for a group of seven, but the staff were so welcoming and accommodating. They even put a few extra tables together so we’d have a bit more room and wouldn’t feel cramped, which was really thoughtful of them. What I appreciated most was that we ended up chatting for ages after our meal and completely lost track of time. It wasn’t until we left that we realised they’d actually been closed for quite a while! Not once did they rush us or make us feel like we were keeping them waiting. They were so patient and looked after us brilliantly the whole Sunday evening. Such lovely people and genuinely great service. It was freezing outside, but they made us all feel so welcome and at home. Thanks so much for a lovely evening! We’ll definitely be coming back! 😊”

“Our favourite restaurant in Cambridge! 🇭🇺 My boyfriend and I have visited Taste From Hungary several times now, and they never disappoint! In fact, we enjoy it so much that we never want to leave at the end of the night. The atmosphere is wonderful, the decor is amazing with great attention to detail, the food is absolutely delicious, and the service is always great! My personal favourites are the lángos starter and the beef stew main course- both are fantastic, and I couldn’t recommend them enough! It’s also lovely to support a family-run restaurant that brings such a unique and welcoming dining experience to Cambridge. Taste From Hungary has truly become our favourite restaurant in the city and we can’t wait to visit their new restaurant on Mill Road! If you’re looking for somewhere with delicious food, a beautiful atmosphere and a warm, personal touch, I highly recommend giving this place a try. You won’t be disappointed!”

“I’ve never had Hungarian food before, but this experience has certainly set a very high bar. Everything had that wonderful feeling of authentic, home-cooked food — comforting, generous, and made with care. The sauerkraut pork was exceptional — 9/10, while the beef goulash was also excellent — 8/10. The restaurant itself adds so much to the experience. From the atmosphere to the overall look and feel, you’re transported straight to Europe. Sitting there, I could almost picture a Hungarian grandmother in the kitchen, lovingly preparing these dishes for her family. It’s the kind of food that feels like it has a story and a lot of heart behind it. Highly recommended. I’ll definitely be coming back!”

“Highly recommend this delightful restaurant. We had the beef stew with red wine, rich gravy and tender chunks of beef- a glass of Bulls blood and poppy seed cake and custard for afters. Great ambiance, friendly attentive service - we'll be back!”
