Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most often to the riverside setting over the Cam, where the terrace and window seats look onto the punting docks, and diners enjoy watching punters of every skill level pass just inches from the tables. Friendly, quick service comes close behind, with food arriving quickly and with a smile. Named dishes include the traditional Sunday roast with a large dish of vegetables and a tasty dessert, fish and chips, and a crisp, beautifully made Hugo Spritz, alongside an Aperol by the water, a pint while watching the match, and excellent beer. Visitors from abroad describe it as a cosy first taste of England and of British pub culture. The one critical reviewer found the food only ok and very average for such a special location and for the prices. One group celebrating a family reunion describes the manager moving their table to a window seat upstairs and letting them stay on as the last table standing.

“Just over the Cam river...a perfect view over a very touristic place in Cambridge (where you can hire a boat or a tour) . We came here for the traditionnal sunday roasted meat 😀 It was a great expérience, with a very good meat, and a large dish full of vegetables . Quick and smiley service. Excellent beer....and at the end a tasty dessert. A place to see.....and to try”

“We can’t praise the staff and manager enough for their amazing service and tasty food. We’d booked our table as a special reunion with a family member from abroad. From the moment we walked in the manager couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a lovely afternoon even moving our table to a beautiful window seat upstairs! Thank you all for helping make this such a lovely experience, sorry we were the last table standing!! We’ve visited lots before but this meant so much to us and will be back soon! 😊”

“As someone from a rather pub-less country (Denmark), there’s something incredibly special about coming back to England and experiencing British pub culture—it’s such a quintessentially British experience. The Anchor not only delivered on that cosy atmosphere, but the friendly service made it even better. Whether it was an Aperol by the water in the sunshine or a pint while watching the match, every visit has been a pleasure. Already looking forward to coming back!”

“Great location on the river however the food does not reflect the quality. It was ok but you'd expect a little something special from such s special location and for the prices. Very average”
