About Eagle & Child
Eagle & Child is a pub with boutique bedrooms at 3 Whalley Rd in Bury, and both the restaurant and the rooms look over Ramsbottom towards Peel Tower. Rooms come with breakfast, so overnight guests can eat before heading out. In the kitchen, pub-style dishes cover pies, steaks and fish and chips, with a cheese and onion pie on the menu and crème brûlée for dessert. The menu changes seasonally and includes vegetarian and vegan choices. A Sunday lunch roast is served, and the bar pours cask ales and wines. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along for a meal or a drink.

Customer Review Summary
Steak is the dish diners raise most, with one calling it cooked to perfection, another praising its value, and a third finding it pink as ordered but chewy. Crème brûlée comes close behind, described as delicious and to die for. The cheese and onion pie is called the best one a grandmother had ever eaten, while another diner found the pastry too thick. Fish goujons with homemade tartar sauce, schnitzel and a hotdog also earn praise, and one overnight guest describes a view over Ramsbottom and a wonderful breakfast. Service is called friendly and excellent in nearly every review, including a server who chatted to a five year old. The complaints are about the food. One family found a tiny chicken supreme, cold fries and a mushy crumble, and a Sunday roast came with hard potatoes, dry Yorkshire pudding and few vegetables. A longtime regular says the menu now leans toward typical pub dishes and misses the old soups. Another notes it is very loud when busy. One coeliac diner found sorbet the only gluten-free dessert on offer.

“Booked for the restaurant on Saturday lunch. Menu change from last time, which is good for variety. Lovely view from the restaurant. We had schnitzel and the hotdog - both really tasty. Puddings - brownie and creme brûlée - again, both delicious. The whole area feels lovely and clean when you walk in and staff are really nice.”

“Went for Sunday lunch. Service was great and friendly staff. Roast itself was fantastic however roast potatoes were hard and Yorkshire pudding dry also overall portion size small with minimal vegetables. Not great for most expensive roast dinner around”

“Meet my friend here every 6-8 weeks and always had a lovely lunch. Went this week and the menu has changed ( it always did change seasonally etc) but this now is more just like typical pub food choices - pies and fish and chips, steaks. The Soups used to be the best we have ever had anywhere. Maybe chef has changed ? The food was lovely - well presented - although pastry too thick on the cheese and onion pie and took the flavour away from the filling. The service excellent and friendly as always, but we longer have the enthusiasm to go back soon as previous menu's were a cut above the run of the mill pub foods. For that reason I just gave 4 stars”

“Exceptional food, lovely atmosphere, generous portions and the service teams attention to detail was outstanding. We celebrated a double birthday and we couldn’t be happier with the choice to come here. We highly recommend and will be repeating customers!”

“We were very lucky to find availability at the last minute in the Eagle and Child. We had a fabulous room, with a great view over Ramsbottom up to Peel Tower. There was a wonderful breakfast, and complementary drink included in the price. We had a very tasty meal in the restaurant in the evening. Both our meal and breakfast was of high quality. We'll definitely go back again when visiting our family and friends.”
