Quick info
About Bulls Head
Bulls Head is a pub in Broxbourne on High Rd Turnford, and it has been a McMullen house since 1912. It is billed as Chicken & Grill No. 1, the original Chicken & Grill pub, so poultry sits at the center of the kitchen's story. The menu also covers fish and chips and a Yorkshire pudding filled with brisket and served on a metal platter. Sunday roast comes in a standard version and a lighter one. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and dogs are welcome. The bar pours a range of beers, and puddings and desserts are on the list for afterward. Inside, the tables seat two or four, and the pub plays no music.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast served inside a giant Yorkshire pudding is what reviewers return to most, with the beef brisket version described as soft, tender and big enough that one reviewer suggests getting it as a main to share. Fish and chips and breast of chicken also draw praise, and a decadent ice cream cone with a chocolate flake gets a mention as a finishing treat. Close behind is the staff, called friendly, welcoming and efficient even when the pub is packed, with food and drinks still arriving quickly. One diner arranged a safe spot for a mobility scooter, and a group of seven returns yearly for a reunion lunch. The one complaint is a chicken dish that arrived a bit burnt, and the staff replaced it and gave a free pudding.

“Excellent Sunday roast and fish and chips. 4 of us went for a meal. 2 had beef brisket absolutely gorgeous and so soft and tender with a huge Yorkshire Pudding. Another had breast of chicken which they really enjoyed and my brother had fish and chips. Staff was excellent, very friendly, efficient and nothing too much trouble (organised safe park for mobility scooter) Really recommend this pub is you’re in the area”

“We came in for my mum’s birthday, we were greeted by Hannah who was really friendly and welcoming. Our drinks and food arrived really quickly and the portion sizes are really good. This review is mainly for Hannah as she was very polite and offered a really good service despite being busy, she really is a good asset to the team and she definitely makes your dining experience worth coming again!!”

“We had a fantastic time dining here. The food was absolutely delicious and served in such a fun, unique way. I was really impressed by the giant Yorkshire pudding served on a metal platter. It was perfectly cooked and held the meat and gravy beautifully. We also made sure to finish off our meal with a decadent ice cream cone topped with a chocolate flake, which was the perfect treat. Everything was spot on.”

“Chicken & Grill No. 1, the original Chicken & Grill pub, the Bull’s Head has been a McMullen house since 1912. Personality and character in abundance, not to mention the amazing food and great service delivered by our long-standing team. Eat in the restaurant, or in the bar. Dine alfresco on the decking when the sun shines or take away when you’re short on time. Pre-order if you’re on your lunch hour or take your time on a Sunday, enjoying tender slow-braised beef with a glass of deep red from our excellent wine list. Booking is advisable as we’re often full. Functions are welcomed and buffets available, please call us to find out how we can help.”
