About Hare
The Hare is a pub in Harlow at 100 Hare St Springs, opposite Princess Alexandra Hospital. It has been a Mac's pub since 1897 and keeps a three-bar layout: a public bar with pool and darts, a snug, and a lounge set aside for dining. The kitchen cooks steak and ale pie, steaks with pepper sauce and a jacket potato with tuna mayo. The bar serves locally brewed real ales, cocktails and Irish coffee. The interior includes historic photos of Harlow's past and decorative old doors. The snug can be booked for gatherings, with a buffet option for groups. The pub opens daily, and dogs are welcome.

What reviewers say
Reviewers most often mention sunday roast, jacket potato with tuna mayo, steak and ale pie and stack burger.
Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food, with the jacket potato topped with generous tuna mayo and crispy skin the dish singled out first. Close behind are the stack burger, steaks cooked as asked with pepper sauce, the onion basket, and a steak and ale pie, while Sunday roasts are called generous and one reviewer suggests upgrading to the large. The coffee with a scone and the Irish coffee also get mentions. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, accommodating and efficient, including for a large group and for a family's wake held in the Snug with a buffet. Reviewers like the old-world decor, historic photos of Harlow and outside seating, and say the prices are reasonable for the portions. On the downside, one reviewer found the bathroom functional but in need of care, another thought the salad dressing unremarkable, and one found some areas dark. Another calls the food nice but not a wow. A group lunch with a buy one get one free offer ended with everyone enjoying their desserts.

“Decent for a chain pub. Disappointed they participated in the pretence that the government is doing anything meaningful for hospitality, though. Presumably they feel a chain business will benefit when the current government’s policies drives out every individually-owned pub.”

“We booked the Snug bar at the Hare for the wake of our Mum following her funeral. It was an ideal, cozy setting for our relatively small group of mourners. Thank you so much to Jason and his team, not only on the day, but for the help in selecting the buffet options etc. When we arrived, the buffet table was aplenty and beautifully laid out. The choice was great and tasty. The room had been ideally arranged. There were teas and coffees waiting for those who did not want an alcoholic beverage. The service we received on the day was speedy and all the staff were very attentive and amazing. We chose this venue as we often frequented it with our Mum, so we had fond memories as she always enjoyed the food, drinks and setting there. Great food and beer always, plus their Sunday roasts are generous and gorgeous! Would thoroughly recommend not only for an event such as ours, but for a visit in general. We will visiting again soon. Thank you Jason and your team for making such a sad day a fitting and wonderful send off for our Mum.”

“Really nice pub, very friendly staff and the food is genuinely very good and reasonable prices too. I like their steak and ale pie. One of the best pubs in Harlow. Nice outside seating too for the summer.”

“A traditional three-bar inn with true pub values run for the modern age, the Hare is a true country local in the heart of Harlow. A stone’s throw from the centre right opposite Princess Alexandra Hospital, the Hare has been a Mac’s pub since 1897. Pop in for a swift bite to eat from our great value, extensive menu, revitalise yourself with our locally brewed real ales, cocktails and popular wines. Perfect! Step away from the madding crowds and relax. Pool and darts are available in the public bar, while the Snug’s got more privacy, and the lounge is dedicated to dining in truly relaxing surroundings. You can even dine alfresco on the patio, weather permitting.”
