Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come above all for the Sunday roast, singling out tender beef, rich gravy, Yorkshire pudding and a black pudding stuffing, with the vegetables praised as stars of the platter. Close behind are other mains and starters, including rolled belly pork, brisket that melted in the mouth, brisket and ham hock bon bons, a crab taco starter, and rabbit stew paired with a glass of cider. A lemon tart gets a mention for dessert. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, helpful and welcoming. One reviewer who could not get a roast table found the regular pub food just as satisfying. A CAMRA-listed pub, it also draws a note on four real ales and a cider, though one reviewer found the rosé choice poor. The recurring catch is availability: reviewers say the roast is fully booked for 2025 and sold out for 2026, and some describe waiting around eight to ten months for a table. Several suggest booking is essential, and one urges keeping a reservation once secured.

“Well worth the 8mths wait 😄, food was exceptional, we had the brisket and it just melted in our mouths, veggies cooked well and a great seasonal selection. Staff were great, friendly and helpful and the service was brilliant. We are going back later this year and already planning visits next year.”

“Found this pub by chance and how lucky were we! Sam was so welcoming and efficient. The doggy bag dinner idea was a really lovely surprise, even though our dogs were back home in Switzerland. But saving the best for last: the meal was superb and we enjoyed every mouthful. Whoever the chef, their skill for preparing delicious vegetables is truly amazing - yes the veggies actually were the stars of the roast beef platter - the beef was scrumptious too. I am just so sad l no longer live in the UK and can`t go back for more.”

“What a spot! Doing Britain proud with a robust plate of food. Bravo 👏 Sunday roast in a humble pub and equally excellent service. Yes it’s sold out for 2026 so if you are lucky enough to have a reservation… keep it!!”

“A CAMRA Good Beer Guide pub hidden away in a back street. 4 real ales plus a cider. Flat Eric ordered a 4% Bristol Beer Factory Amber. Very good. Boothroyd Bear finds Bristol rosé wine choice poor so had a Cola. A tented village to the front. Mens toilets steeply downstairs.”
