Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the friendly, welcoming service, with one server praised repeatedly for being attentive and for explaining ingredients to dairy-free guests. Food comes close behind. Reviewers describe a veggie wellington with plenty of gravy, pork with crackling, a scotch egg called the best one a diner had eaten, and Aspall cider battered fish with triple cooked chips and mushy peas. Another calls the fish and chips huge. Drinkers praise the cask beer, naming Moose River and Timothy Taylor's Landlord as kept in excellent condition, and several enjoy the riverside grounds, beer garden and veranda. Desserts draw mixed reactions. One reviewer found a Black Forest gateau style sundae disappointing, with chopped brownie and plain, icy ice cream, while a partner thought the sticky toffee pudding excellent. One diner on the three-course set menu noted a slightly longer wait than expected. Another reports that a family's different orders all arrived at the table together.

“Popped in for a drink after a walk by the river. Lovely drink and friendly service. Outside has been looked after well. Not been inside but looks great. Would like to come back to try the food”

“Wonderful food full of flavours and well presented. Our waitress Carla, was so helpful and friendly. She gave us great information on ingredients for two of our diary free guests. Her positive and sunny outlook made our birthday meal really special. Thank you everyone what a wonderful place to celebrate”

“Had a lovely meal to celebrate our daughter passing her driving test. The outside seating area on the veranda is lovely. Service fab food fab we all ordered something different and it all arrived together. Didn't get a picture of the burger . And the fish and chips was huge.”

“Very attractive venue even when the sun isn't shining, but really lovely to sit outside in the extensive grounds by the river when it is. Beer kept in capital condition, they should really be on the Cask Marque Ale Trail. Sampled Moose River 5%abv delicious and very hoppy, and Timothy Taylor's Landlord. Again, in excellent condition and very more-ish. Enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with an ember visiting from France”

“We stopped here for a late lunch, on our way to Cornwall. There was a large car park for easy parking and plenty of space for larger vehicles. There was lots of outdoor seating for fine days, bus as it was pouring with rain we sat inside. What a lovely pub with a great atmosphere, which was a real lift on such a miserable day. It was a pleasure to meet Carla, the lovely lady who served us. She was very attentive and made us feel so welcome, making sure we had everything we needed and checking everything was ok at every opportunity. We ordered the Aspull Cider battered fish and triple cooked chips with mushy peas. We didn't have to wait long at all before the food arrived, and it was all delicious. We will definitely return, next time we are in the area. Thanks again Carla x Julie and Gary .”
