About Planet India
Planet India is a family-run vegetarian restaurant at 4 Richmond Parade in Brighton. Its mains come with a half and half option, which gives diners a half plate of curry so they can try more than one dish in a single meal. The menu is compact and built around regional dishes, and the starters include Bhel Puri, Pani Puri and samosas, with turmeric root chutney served alongside. The food is vegetarian and vegan, and the kitchen also cooks for diners who eat meat elsewhere. Inside, the decor is quirky and has a 70s feel, and the service style is casual rather than formal. The team gives recommendations on drinks and starters.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the puri starters, with the Bhel Puri, a dhai bhel puri and the Pani Puri drawing the most praise, along with a turmeric root chutney. One reviewer pairs the Bhel Puri with samosas. Close behind are the half and half mains, a half plate of two curries that reviewers like for trying more than one dish. Tadka dal, a masoor dal mix, onion bhaji and tadka bread are also named. Reviewers describe friendly, chatty staff who give helpful recommendations, a laid back atmosphere and quirky 70s decor that is not kitsch. Portions are mostly called generous, though one reviewer found the main course portions small and a bit mean, and another says the food took a little long to arrive. Several parties of seven or four report food arriving promptly, and one birthday group shared homemade starters recommended by staff before everyone chose the half and half.

“We chose Planet India for a birthday celebration with 7 of us dining in. We were warmly welcomed into the restaurant by staff and promptly had our drinks order taken- with excellent recommendations. We had a variety of tasty homemade starters to share across the table, again recommended by the staff - portion sizes are excellent! For mains, all of us chooses the half and half option and we were not disappointed. The flavour, smell and presentation of the food was simply delightful - again the portion sizes are excellent. The staff were fun and chatty throughout the evening and I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone.”

“A solid 4 star with the food and service arriving fast. I would say however that the main course portion sizes were small. Portions were a bit mean. But some great starters very surprising flavours. Charming staff. Bravo”

“We've been back multiple times and it's an all time favourite location for my partner and I! She studied in Brighton and when we came back for a visit the first thing we did was book a table for our first night. The service is fantastic and the server's humour and laid-back attitude adds immensely to the welcoming atmosphere... And I've not even mentioned how good the food is! Cannot recommend this place enough. Not just for vegetarians, it's one of the best dining experiences in the country!”

“The best Indian restaurant I’ve ever tried. It was absolutely delicious and everything was very tasty! We had the half plate curries, which is a great way to try more than one dish, the onion bhaji and the tadka bread. I highly recommend it if you want to have a taste of real Indian food!”
