About Amari Restaurant

At 15 Baker St in Brighton, Amari Restaurant is a tapas restaurant where the chefs carry the dishes from the kitchen to the table themselves, so the people who cook the food are the ones who serve it. The menu is built around small plates, with some larger plates alongside, and it rotates by season with special items appearing now and then. Spanish-style dishes include ham croquettes, Ibérico steak with sherry sauce and tuna crudo with mandarin emulsion. The drinks list covers sangria, cocktails and wine, and the dining room is small. A separate gluten-free menu marks cross-contamination risks.

Customer Review Summary

Croquettes come up most often at Amari, with both ham croquettes and mushroom croquettes named as standouts among the small plates. Close behind are the Ibérico steak with sherry sauce, the king prawns, and a pork dish one reviewer calls a must. Diners describe punchy, complex Spanish flavours, seasonal ingredients, and a menu that rotates, and one says the sangria beat any they had in Madrid. Service is described as friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about food and wine. A gluten-free diner received a separate menu with cross-contamination risks marked. The room is called cosy and intimate. Complaints are minor: the tuna crudo with mandarin emulsion was enjoyed but its portion could have been larger, one reviewer wanted more acidity in some dishes, and another notes that a small plates format means ordering around three dishes per person. Several reviewers mention the chefs carrying the dishes out from the kitchen to the table themselves.

You feel like going to a friend’s house, but they happen to be a Michelin star chef who loves experimenting with seasonal ingredients and flavour combinations. The menu rotates by the season, with special items showing up every now and then, so each visit guarantees some novelty.”
