About Café des Couleurs
On Islingword Rd in Brighton, Café des Couleurs is a cafe that pairs French and European cooking with British seasonal produce, and its menus change with the seasons. The breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes include avocado on toast and a soufflé omelette, and the kitchen lists vegan, vegetarian and other dietary options. A counter of cakes, bakes and patisseries, both sweet and savoury, changes daily. The drinks list runs from Parisian Hot Chocolate to speciality teas and lattes with a twist. A couple of times a month the cafe hosts Bistro nights, a set 3-course meal served with nibbles and petit fours, which gives regulars a different format from the everyday menu. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Cakes, bakes and desserts draw the most praise. One reviewer calls them some of the greatest desserts they have tasted, and another regrets skipping the pastries. Close behind are the brunch and lunch plates, which reviewers say put a creative twist on familiar dishes: avocado on toast with eggs and bacon, an asparagus rosti, a roasted cauliflower salad with apples and pecans, bacon pancakes, a soufflé omelette and a croque crab special. Several mention friendly staff, colourful decor and a cosy feel, plus a tucked-away courtyard at the back. A bistro night earned praise for generous portions and vegan and vegetarian choices. The complaints are small. One reviewer found the food slow to arrive despite a quiet room, and a cinnamon and apple matcha latte tasted of neither much. One diner was served a huge portion of beans with eggs and avocado on sourdough and could not finish it, and the café made them an earl grey latte with espresso.

“Genuinely some of the greatest desserts I have ever tasted in my life, and the rest of the menu is equally excellent. It’s a gorgeous little cafe with lovely staff. I would say this is the highest quality place for desserts in Brighton.”

“My partner and I stumbled across Café des Coleurs while waiting to meet some friends, and what a pleasant surprise it was! The café has a lovely main seating area, with a tucked-away courtyard at the rear which gives it a really nice atmosphere. The menu has a fantastic selection, with plenty of options catering for different diets and dietary requirements. I went for the avocado on toast - a classic, with added eggs and bacon - while my partner ordered the Bratwurst special. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked incredible, full of colour and flavour. The customer service was exceptional too, with genuinely friendly, smiley staff who made us feel very welcome. A great little find and somewhere we’ll definitely be returning to!”
