About Ounce Coffee

Ounce Coffee is a coffee shop in Bournemouth, at 29A Seamoor Rd, that doubles as a plant and lifestyle store. The coffee side pairs a house roast with a guest coffee, and the espresso menu includes a flat white, with matcha and chai for those who want something else. Pastries and sweets sit alongside, among them a cinnamon bun and Basque cheesecake. Beans are sold to take home, and the staff help customers choose which to buy. Plants, candles and merchandise are on sale in the shop and also fill the room, where alternative music plays. Space to sit inside is limited because the shop is small. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return for the coffee, with several calling it the best in Westbourne and praising the house roast and rotating guest coffee. Drinks named include the flat white, cappuccino, black Americano, iced filter, matcha and chai. Close behind is the atmosphere, described as relaxed and friendly, with alternative music, plants, candles and merchandise on sale. Staff come up repeatedly as chatty and welcoming, and one reviewer says they were helpful in advising on beans to brew at home. Pastries and sweets earn their own praise, particularly the cinnamon bun and the Basque cheesecake. The one recurring drawback is size: the space is small, and one reviewer says there is not much room inside to sit and enjoy it. Another describes being greeted warmly and chatting with the owner about homeschooling and Bournemouth, and a regular says they visited twice in a single day.

“Great specialty coffee (having tried their iced filter, black Americano, double mac, espresso, cappuccino, flat white). Delicious pastries/snacks, super friendly staff, very cool but welcoming and chill vibe. Have also purchased beans, super helpful in giving me advice on the best selection for how / what I wanted to brew at home.”

“Really nice coffee, most likely the best in Westbourne. Nice little space, the only downside is that there isn't much space inside to sit down and enjoy the nice atmosphere. If I'm ever around again, will try them again.”

“Great local coffee shop in Westbourne. Always a pleasure to stop in for a coffee between jobs. Friendly team, great atmosphere, and consistently excellent coffee.”

“After leaving the fish and chips place opposite (also incredible!) I noticed this little coffee shop and what a gem of a place it is. I was a bit apprehensive to go in, but boy was that not necessary. I've never felt so welcome, staff/owner was so welcoming, talking to me and my son about homeschool, shooting the breeze about Bournemouth etc. Very cool place, but to top it off the coffee was incredible. He knows his market, and is doing it incredibly well. I actually had coffee training with the La Marzocco team a few years back, and their machine with the right batista and bean gives the best coffee - this is the best advert for that - I was astounded at how cheap it was too! If we are ever back in Bournemouth, we will be back.”
