About Café Neri - Oratory Undercroft

Café Neri - Oratory Undercroft is a coffee shop at 1 Albert Rd in Bournemouth, set in the undercroft of the Oratory. The kitchen makes its cakes and lunch dishes on the premises, with an Italian orange cake and tiramisù among the sweet options, and scones come fresh from the oven. Coffee follows an Italian style, with espresso and barista drinks. Seating mixes tables and chairs with armchairs and sofas, so visitors can choose between a seat for lunch and a softer spot for a drink. A shop on the right as you enter sells books, cards and Catholic items. A board by the café lets customers pin their own prayer intentions.

Customer Review Summary

Coffee is the main draw, with reviewers praising real Italian espresso, an excellent cappuccino, and barista coffee they call nicer than the big chains. Close behind are the home-made bakes and lunches: authentic tiramisù, an Italian orange cake, scones fresh from the oven, and a beef chilli, with several noting everything is made on the premises. Service is repeatedly called friendly, and the room is described as cozy, calm, and quiet, with light background music and a choice of tables, armchairs, and sofas. One reviewer says they never feel they have to leave once the drink is finished. The only complaint comes from a parent with a sleeping baby, who found the main entrance door kept banging in the wind, though they added it was not really the cafe's fault. Several also mention the small shop of books and cards by the entrance, and a board where customers pin prayer intentions for others to pray over.

“Great little place if you’re looking for somewhere quiet. Food was really nice and all made fresh. Cakes looked lovely, although I didn’t try them. Service was great. 👍 Ps. The only reason I gave Atmosphere as 4 stars was because I had my baby son with me asleep and the main entrance door kept banging in the wind. Not really their fault, but hey… otherwise faultless.”

“The most wonderful and the cosiest Cafe in Bournemouth. Cafe Neri has such lovely and friendly staff and as a bonus, you can often meet one of the Oratory Fathers there and have a chat. Cafe is spacious for seating and super comfortable and you don’t feel like you have to leave as soon as you finished your drink! The smallest of details within the Cafe bring on the atmosphere that is just divine! Cafe Neri is just excellent if you are there on your own or with friends. They serve the most delicious coffee (with oat milk for me), cakes and have variety of tasty lunch options❤️ Oh! And not to forget that it has really easy access for elderly and disabled ( with disabled parking spaces just across the road). Seems like I cannot stop writing so who made it all the way here will find out about another fantastic bonus of Cafe Neri. When you enter, on the right, there is a shop where you can find selection of great books, beautiful cards and other Catholic items! And another fantastic and such a beautiful detail is that you can leave your prayer intention pinned on the board and people will pray for what you asked and for your need! This, you cannot find in any other caffe! Cafe Neri is simply wonderful!”

“I have been here for coffee and cake and for lunch. The coffee is very good barista coffee, nicer and cheaper than the big chains. Cakes are made on the premises and include some unusual options such as an Italian. orange cake. I had beef chilli yesterday which was very good. A range of lunch options are available and it is all made on the premises. The ambience is relaxed and comfortable with light background music, not too noisy. There is a choice of tables and chairs or more relaxed armchair and sofa seating. Service is friendly and good.”
