About Coach and Horses
Coach and Horses is a pub on Thorley St in Bishops Stortford, run as a McMullen pub since 2011 and pouring local McMullen cask ale. World lagers, wines and classic cocktails share the bar with it. The kitchen cooks from British heritage recipes and seasonal ingredients, with a Sunday roast that includes roast pork, along with fish and chips and steaks. The chefs also add dishes of their own choosing each day. Inside, the pub has exposed beams, an open fire and several separate dining areas, and a conservatory looks onto the garden at the rear. The interior has been recently refurbished. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the Sunday roast, with roast pork and other roast dinners described as tasty with a good portion, and steak comes close behind, including one steak praised alongside help choosing a red wine. Burgers, salads, chicken supreme and a cherry pie and custard also get mentions, and reviewers describe friendly, patient staff, including with a group of ten that had several allergies and with elderly parents. The garden and outdoor tables, the beams and the refurbished interior come up as a lovely setting, and one reviewer liked ordering through the app. The main complaints are specific: one diner found the fish and chips greasy, all batter and no fish, with mushy peas arriving after the meal was finished, and another found the bearnaise on steaks too vinegary, unsalted and missing tarragon. One reviewer also notes the kitchen stops serving earlier than the web listing said. Several reviewers say they plan to come back, one for a Christmas get-together.

“Denise our waitress was really friendly, and professional. She was really understanding, patient, and compassionate with my elderly parents. I would definitely recommend this pub. Great atmosphere, great food and great staff.”

“Come in for our Sunday dinner a few weeks back. Everyone was very pleased with thier food, including roast pork, fish and chips, and burger. Attentive staff and lovely layout. Looking forward to returning for our Christmas meet up, if not beforehand!”

“I eat here during the week and they do a really nice burger, and a lovely pub and lovely staff, tonight (Saturday) I thought I would try the traditional fish and chips... it was sooo greasy and all batter and no fish it was inedible, and I asked for mushy peas and they came up after I had left my dinner. Really disappointing, I would have said something to the person waiting my table but they were just a kid and it would have been unfair on them. Left disappointed and hungry- will now have to go to the fish and chip shop for my dinner 🙁😂”

“Came here for dinner on a sunny Fri evening. Hadn't booked but enough tables outside. Lovely pub garden setting. Food was good - adults had salads and teenagers had burgers. All v tasty and decent portions. Service was fine. Easy to order via app. Will definitely return.”

“What an excellent stop this was, 1 beer, 1 cocktail, 2 x chicken Supremes, cherry pie and Custard with the tip £70. Probably one of the best main meals we've had for a long time, presentation and taste 10/10, lovely service in an oldy worldy pub, beams etc. The only thing to be careful of is that the goggle web page said serving till 9.30pm, its actually 9pm. We will stop here again.”
