Customer Review Summary
Cod and chips is the draw most reviewers raise, described as fresh, delicious and piping hot, with several saying meals are cooked fresh to order. A double cheese burger and chips, a chicken dinner and online delivery that arrived hot and fast also earn praise, along with polite staff and good presentation. The recurring complaint is value. Several reviewers call the portions small and the prices high, describing a cod no bigger than a slice of bread, a handful of chips, and a pie with a sprinkle of chips that left one diner still hungry. A long-time customer says the mixed chicken and tikka kebab, once served in a tray, now arrives as a small chicken pitta, and the cod was tiny too. Service draws separate complaints. One reviewer says nobody at the counter acknowledged them while they waited to order, and another says a late delivery ended with a rude person on the phone hanging up. A third says staff insisted on a food purchase before handing over napkins to someone with a nosebleed.

“Absolutely shocking behaviour from this chippy. Called after 45mins to be told my food had just left the shop. 15minutes later still no food call the shop and the person on the other end was incredibly rude unhelpful and decided to put the phone down”

“I was once waiting on a coach to get into work when my nose suddenly started bleeding. I went into this shop request napkins so I can at least try to stop the bleeding and they said I had to buy food first the napkins aren’t free. Whilst I understand this is the case you can visually see that I needed help and I was in no condition to take out my wallet/order anything. In the end I did get napkins but why did I have to beg and plead? Where is the kindness? This was a horrible experience do better”

“I didn't get a chance to order. Wasn't busy in there but wasn't dead. 2/3 people behind counter and no one even welcomed me the whole 5/8 minutes i was there waiting to order. The longer I waited in there the more i felt unwelcome. I live around the area, have never tried this place and thought this would be my new chippy. Irl find another i guess.”

“Going through the menu i've just had a real double cheese burger and chips. All meals are cooked fresh to order if one chooses to eat in and the quantity and quality are excellent. The menu covers all various tastes and palettes. The prices are extremely competitive and profoundly good for the modern chippies of today. The Staff are very polite and accommodating so high customer service and to satisfaction. Would highly recommend a visit from a chippie tea to a family meal treat. A real Traditional Chippie. Cod and chips to die for. Delicious, fresh and piping hot!!!”

“I have been a loyal customer for over 9 years, but tonight was the last time. I spent £40 for a birthday treat, only to be shocked by the "Mixed Kebab" I received. For nearly a decade, I’ve ordered the mixed chicken and tikka kebab. It has always been a generous portion (around 400g) served in a plastic tray. Tonight, I paid over £10 and received a meager chicken pitta sandwich with barely 100-150g of meat. When I called to complain, the manager’s excuse was that they "always serve it in a pitta" and claimed this was stated on their website. I have done my homework: I checked their website and read through their Terms and Conditions—there is absolutely no mention of this being served as a pitta sandwich. After 9 years of consistent orders, I know exactly what I should have received, and being told otherwise feels like a slap in the face to a long-term customer. I understand inflation, but charging £10 for a small sandwich instead of a full kebab tray is a massive downgrade in value. The Cod was equally tiny and disappointing. It’s a shame to see the quality and service at Sophie’s disappear. I won't be back.”
