About The Plough Hyde Heath
The Plough Hyde Heath is a village pub on Hyde Heath Rd in Amersham, set opposite the cricket square and the common. Swings nearby give children somewhere to play, and the spot suits people starting or finishing a country walk. The bar serves local cask ale, with Neck Oil among the beers, alongside wine. The pub reopened in September 2026 under new management, and a new chef and menu are planned for the kitchen. Tables are walk-in only, with no booking. Saturdays tend to be busy.
Good to know
“The Plough, Hyde Heath is a wonder village pub set within the beautiful Chiltern Hills. Situated opposite the village cricket square and village common. A perfect location to sit, enjoy a cool beer, a crisp wine whilst the crickets on, the kids play on the swings or to start or finish a country walk. We welcome villagers, doggies, and guests from further afield. Recently reopened under new management from September 2026. Paul and his team are working hard to restore the Plough to its former glory. To be the hub of the community, the heart of this wonderful village. Please visit come and visit . Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most praise, with diners describing very tender roast lamb, great roast potatoes, plenty of veg including cauliflower cheese, and everything served hot. Close behind is how clean the pub feels since the change of management. Reviewers call it spotless and shining, and mention clean glasses, a good wine selection and rearranged tables that feel more spacious. Several mention friendly, welcoming staff, including a helpful young barmaid, and drinks described as reasonably priced. One reviewer found the nachos generous and hopes to try the fish and chips. Another found the food really tasty but the portions, especially the burger, a tad small, and wanted a second local cask ale beyond the Neck Oil. A few say they look forward to the kitchen reopening under a new chef and menu. One visiting parent closed by thanking the staff for tolerating a crying newborn.

“I was delighted to hear that my local pub is under new management. We met with our friends there on Saturday and I have to say it was spotless inside. Everything was shining again. Plenty of beer available too. It has been a long time since our pub felt cared for. The kitchen will be re opening under a new chef and with a new menu.. looking forward to that but in the meantime ill be enjoying clean beer and good company again.”
