About Swan Inn Amersham

On the High Street in Amersham, Swan Inn is a British gastropub set in a brick building with separate areas for casual and more formal dining. The steak and malbec pie is a dish the kitchen is known to serve, alongside lamb shank and lamb steak, a Sunday roast, and fish and chips, with a dirty burger among the options and a wine list to accompany the food. A fireplace warms the dining space, and the garden provides outdoor seating for those who prefer to eat outside. Dogs are welcome throughout the bar and dining areas, and a step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs. High chairs are available for families with young children. The pub is open daily, and reservations are recommended. Food is also available for takeaway and delivery, for those eating off site.

Customer Review Summary

Lamb dishes, especially the lamb shank and lamb steak roast, emerge as the most repeated highlight, praised for being cooked well and full of flavor. Close behind, the pub's burgers and the steak and malbec pie draw strong reactions, with several diners calling the burger among the best they've had, though one reviewer found the pie's meat mostly gristle and sinew. Desserts also stand out, with the toffee pudding and flaming baked Alaska singled out for praise. Service is described by most as warm and attentive, with staff often thanked for walking diners through the recently refurbished menu, though a recurring complaint is inconsistent pacing during busy periods: several reviewers report parts of a meal, like potatoes, gravy, and stuffing, arriving late or not at all, and one describes a card machine appearing before dessert could even be offered. A separate account details a birthday visit where a lemonade, a camembert starter, and the fish and chips were all sent back for being oversweetened or overcooked. Another reviewer found a roast beef sirloin dry and poor value at the price charged. Regulars mention bringing dogs into the garden and bar area on repeat visits.

“We went to Swan Inn for a lunch with friends. The atmosphere was buzzing, the waitress was very attentive and was sure to be correct on our order. The food was brilliant. The meals were a good portion size. With the space, our friend was able to put a blanket down for their dog. All in all, a great experience.”

“We keep coming back to The Swan. The team create a warm and welcoming atmosphere and nothing is too much trouble. They all seem to enjoy working there and it shows in their customer service. The menu has changed and the standard of food has gone up a notch. There are decent wine choices and they make a mean ameretto sour. We like to bring our dogs out with us and the bar area is spacious and comfortable to eat in and have the dogs with us. We regularly pop in for a drink and end up having something to eat. Highly recommend for drinks, food or both.”
  • Harriet
“I had a lovely meal here the other day, the starters were excellent, the squid was delicious. Our server, Issy, was very attentive and had brilliant recommendations and our family will definitely be coming back!!”
