Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips is the dish reviewers raise most, with one calling it the best they could imagine, and a chicken burger, a salmon dish, a cheese and onion pie and a ploughman's paired with a pint of Wainwright Gold also come up by name. The cheesy garlic bread is singled out as outstanding. Food is described as fresh, hot and well cooked, and several say portions and prices are in balance. Reviewers also praise the draught beer and ale selection, friendly and chatty staff, and the outdoor benches with heaters and heat lamps, where diners watch sheep in a nearby field or runners passing. The one recurring complaint is minor: a couple of reviewers regret that cash is not taken. One Sunday lunch order was forgotten, but the manager stepped in, offered alternative food that was described as excellent, and sent out complimentary food and drinks.

“Very nice pub in a stunning location. Clean and nice decor no funny smells as you get in some pubs. Excellent food and service. All round very pleasant. I would definitely go back here again. Unfortunately they don't accept cash this is the only fault I could find. We were able to just walk in and pick a nice table but it started to get busier not long after we arrived. We noticed there is also outdoor dining available with retractable shelters and heaters.”

“We stopped here on a trip through the lake district. Not only did I have a wonderful pint of Wainwright gold, we both ordered a ploughman's. Its got to be the best ploughman's I've ever had.... The pub was clean and tidy, the service was excellent and the Food was out of this world. Its just what everybody wants when your in the lakes walking.”

“Fantastic place to stop for some drinks and grub. We stayed at the Langdale Spa and decided to pop in twice during our stay. The pub is around a 8 minute walk from the Langdale Spa, and it has a lovely view outside looking over the small town of Chapel Stile. The waiters were very friendly and entertaining throughout and the service was fantastic. Excellent draft beer / larger / ale selections, and food is fantastic for the price. We had the classic fish and chips, and a salmon dish. For me personally, the fish and chips couldn’t get any better! Spot on. Brilliant place to stop - and for the evenings there are benches outside with heaters to keep you warm whilst you’re enjoying the evening.”
