About The Lake View Bowness
The Lake View Bowness is a pub on Glebe Rd in Windermere, where the tables and booth seating look out over Lake Windermere and the fells. A family business owns and runs the pub, which was refurbished in 2021. The kitchen serves pizzas and chicken kebab skewers with chips and salad, and the menu marks dishes that are gluten free or vegan. Cocktails sit alongside the drinks list, and orders are placed with the team at the bar. Live sport is shown on screen, and the pub also schedules entertainment at weekends. Food can involve a wait, and the team sometimes gives a time estimate when taking the order.
Good to know
“After a refurbishment in 2021, The Lake View is now undoubtedly one of the regions best eating and drinking establishments in the whole of the Lake District national park. Boasting panoramic views across Bowness-on-Windermere, the setting of our venue creates a feeling of calm and relaxation. Owned and run by an experienced, long established family business the Lake Views focus is on good value quality food and drink, aimed at families, couples and even the family pooch (yes we’re dog friendly). We offer great pub food, premium drinks, cocktails, live sport and top class weekend entertainment.”

Customer Review Summary
Views over Lake Windermere and the fells come up most, and even critical diners concede a nice view. Food praise centers on the Lamb Henry, called the most slow cooked lamb one diner has had, plus chicken kebab skewers, a Sunday carvery, lentil and cauliflower pie, steak and ale, and a bartender's pizzas and cocktails. Several describe friendly, welcoming staff. Complaints are concrete: food arrived slow or cold, one diner waited far longer than quoted, and a dish listed as gluten free and vegan was reportedly neither. Others mention bristle in a dish, a garlic and mushroom starter that looked like sand in butter, bitter running out, and rude reception staff. One reviewer describes the toilets as disgusting and questions a camera in a women's toilet. Another was told leftovers could not go home and was offered only foil to wrap them.

“I came back to the Lake View today after my last visit 3 years ago! It was lovely to see the same kind woman working behind the bar who made me feel so welcome when I was here last, in fact, it's the reason I chose to come here for my dinner and drinks again! I had chicken kebab skewers, chips and salad and it was delicious. Despite being told the food might be a little wait it was brought out super quick and cooked to perfection. All made extra special with the beautiful views of lake Windermere and fells. I'll be back here every time I visit my favourite place. Thank you for always making me feel so welcome.”

“Over an hour wait for our food even though we was told 35 minutes. I ordered something off the menu that stated it was gluten free and vegan. Definitely wasnt gluten free or vegan. Chips never arrived, nor did the garlic bread. Food had bristle in it and tasted microwaved which you wouldnt expect for the price you pay. Staff seemed overly stressed when the resturant wasnt even a quarter full. So I dont understand why everyone had to wait for their food. And not even good food, and some didnt turn up and some didnt follow the allergen specification. Nice view though.”

“Kai was amazing! His pizzas and cocktails and the engagement with customers was amazing! He definitely makes the place, when arriving management and another member of staff were not so welcoming we did not hold any hopes until we met Kai”
