About Il Paradiso Del Cibo
Il Paradiso Del Cibo is an Italian restaurant at 40 Walmgate in York, cooking with a Sardinian influence. The kitchen makes its pasta by hand and cooks it to order, and the Malloreddus Montearci comes with sausage and mushrooms. Daily specials include gnocchi, and tiramisu is on the dessert list. The dining room is small, with Italian decorations and Italian television programmes playing. The restaurant is open daily, and a lunch-time offer pairs one course with a drink. Student offers are available too.

Customer Review Summary
Pasta is the draw, with reviewers singling out a carbonara made with guanciale and no cream, the Malloreddus Montearci with sausage and mushrooms in a pecorino sauce, a deep bowl of spaghetti Bolognese likened to a grandmother's cooking, and a rich gnocchi special. Bruschetta comes close behind and is called well seasoned. The prawn starter, seabass, vegetable risotto, pizza and strawberry gelato also earn mentions. Several describe the room as small and homely, with Italian TV playing at a volume that suits conversation, and the staff as friendly and welcoming. One reviewer says the chef helped mix the carbonara so the cheese melted through. The one caveat comes from a reviewer who was surprised by a mandatory additional payment, though they felt the meal deserved it. That reviewer also suggests asking about student offers before ordering. Another diner's tiramisu arrived with a candle and a birthday song from the staff.

“Intimate independent Italian restaurant with lovely friendly staff. Great choice of food with some delicious sounding specials We had the lunch time offer of one course with a drink. Both of us choose pizzas although there was a wide range of pasta and a seabass dish on offer.”

“Saturday night in York, 13th July 2026. We were lucky enough to secure a table on the day. You can understand why it is so popular. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, authentic Sardinian cuisine. I look forward to my next visit when in York. Thank you.”

“Went for lunch with my girlfriend after having been there last August and having loved the food and the atmosphere. I got the Malloreddus Montearci pasta dish with sausage and mushrooms. Although it looked like it was going to be a very small portion, it was just the right amount of food: the pasta had good bite and the sausage and mushrooms with the pecorino sauce was rich without being overpowering. Atmosphere was lovely too: small but homely, with Italian TV playing, loud enough to add to the vibe but so loud as to distract from our conversation. Service was friendly and very prompt, we got our food and drinks within 15 minutes of ordering with a small handful of other people in the restaurant. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting York.”

Good to know
“Il Paradiso Del Cibo is an authentic, family run, rustic, multi award winning Italian restaurant in York. It is widely celebrated for its high-quality Sardinian-influenced cuisine and vibrant, "no-frills" atmosphere, which also mimics a backstreet eatery in Naples or the Italian countryside. It features a lively buzz with Italian football often playing on a large TV. All our fresh pastas are hand made using the best quality Italian flours. We take great pride in what we cook and serve our pastas cooked to order – just like any Italian would expect. We can’t wait to provide you with a very warm welcome, as you are made to feel at home in a relaxed ambience. Orders for collection available online, Tuesday through Sunday.”
