Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food itself, describing a massive menu with something for fussy eaters, generous portions and dishes that arrive hot and fresh. Breads served properly hot get a specific mention, and a few call it the best Indian meal they have had in York. Close behind is the service, called friendly, fast and attentive. One reviewer says the owner goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome, and another describes a last minute party of four arriving late at night and getting good food and service. The wine selection and comfortable seating also earn a mention. The complaints are sharper, though less common. One diner found the mince curry and kebab off, waited a long time, and says all four in the party disliked the meal. Another felt judged by staff over the quantity of food ordered, was seated in a cramped corner, was never checked on, and received a handwritten bill. One reviewer cautions that the floor is very slippy. Another recalls free samples and a liqueur to finish.

“Food was delicious, speedy service and the breads were served surprisingly hot rather than just warm.Staff were friendly and the restaurant had a generally lovely ambiance. Only point to note is the floor is really very slippy, so watch out!”

“Me and mum came to York to visit and saw that Bombay spice had really good reviews. Myself is a very fussy eater and picky but believe me the menu is massive and always something to choose from. This is one of the best Indian food we have ever tried and that’s saying something! Good portions and well priced for what they serve. Do it go in and try it you will not be disappointed! Thankyou Bombay spice!”

“I had a very disappointing experience. The food was really bad and definitely not worth the price. The customer service was just as bad. The way we were treated was completely unacceptable. It felt like the staff judged us based on the quantity of food we ordered, which made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. Throughout our meal, no one came to check if we needed anything else or if everything was okay. To make matters worse, we were seated in a cramped corner that felt suffocating and far from comfortable. Finally, instead of providing a proper printed bill, they gave us a handwritten bill, which came across as unprofessional. Overall, the food, service, and overall experience were all disappointing. I would not recommend this place.”
