De Wright Flava
Quick info
About De Wright Flava
On Fourth Ave in Wolverhampton, De Wright Flava is a Caribbean restaurant serving through counter service, with orders taken at a queue rather than at tables. The kitchen covers curried goat, chicken, and oxtail, alongside sides like plantain, cornmeal porridge, and banana porridge, and fried chicken with rice and peas is a recurring order. It opens daily, and the format is walk-in, so no reservations are taken. Phone orders can be placed, though calls are often unanswered, making a visit to the counter the more reliable way to order. The takeaway setup suits those eating off site rather than dining in.

Customer Review Summary
Chicken draws the most comment, and opinion splits sharply. One reviewer calls the jerk chicken and rice the best they have had, while two others report fried chicken that was tough, dry and chewy, and another found a meal that was mostly bone. A longtime regular says the boneless fried chicken is always sold out. Rice and peas get a tasty verdict from one diner and a dry one from another. Oxtail with generous sauce and plantain earn praise, though one reviewer felt mixed about the portion size. Service is the other recurring complaint. One reviewer was turned away on a Saturday evening with no curried goat and no chicken, another describes a rude young man at the counter and an unanswered phone, and a third saw other customers getting iffy service. One reviewer describes microwave reheated meals and a tag found in their food. Others call the staff friendly, and one, finding the cornmeal porridge gone, settled for a banana porridge that went down a treat.

“I’ve ate from here for a very long time, almost 15 years. First off the customer service is diabolical. It’s never been great but as of late it’s non existent. They never answer the phone, and are always out of boneless fried chicken. If they answered the phone they could have saved me so many trips. The last time I went I felt the young man working there was just so rude. He clearly didn’t want my business. Didn’t look like he wanted to be there at all. Maybe get a diff job then lol. Shame because I really think when it’s right it’s the best one in wolves, but the arrogance and sheer rudeness of the staff makes me not want to support these guys any more.”

“Never seen so much chicken bone in one meal! Disappointed for sure. Rice n peas was tasty though.”

“My partner and I went here on recommendation that it was one of the best Caribbean takeaway aways in Wolverhampton. Unfortunately we didn't get chance to try the food as when we entered the shop the guy behind the counter turned away. There seemed lots of variety of food and we were going to try quite a few dishes plus we were getting an order for a 3rd person. When my partner had decided what to eat we noticed 2 chaps and asked if they were in the queue to which they said they were waiting for their food. We went to order and another customer stood by the door, the guy behind the counter turned his back and started cleaning the microwave. After a couple of minutes he turned to serve the chap in the doorway and he said we were before him. My partner asked for curried goat with rice and peas. He said " got no curried goat" my partner said ok I'll have the chicken to which he replied " got no chicken". This seemed strange as it was 8 pm on a Saturday night. It seems they are making so much money they can choose who to serve and who not to. Needless to say we will not return as we had travelled a fair distance. Will try Mr B's next time in Wolverhampton.”

“Staff were inviting and friendly, the cornmeal porridge wasn’t available by the time I came into the shop so I had a banana porridge instead. It went down an absolute treat, nothing to spare! I’m coming back to catch the cornmeal porridge I know it will be 10/10 just like the banana porridge. Due to come back very soon! You’re actually missing out if you don’t pop in to de wright flava I’m telling ya!”

“Simply amazing. Well known for years now, never heard anything other than high praise and recommendations. They offer a menu thats easy to navigate whether it's a set meal favorite or a unique lunch combo for many. It's the 'go-to' for those seeking food fulfilment.”
