About The Windrush Inn
On Burford Rd in Witney, The Windrush Inn is a pub that buys its produce directly from local producers. Its menus set out where each ingredient comes from and add facts about the history of the food. The kitchen serves a Sunday carvery with meat, trimmings, vegetables, potatoes and gravy, and guests go up to a counter to be served. Baked camembert is on the menu for sharing, and pie and mash is another option. A selection of beer and wine runs alongside the food. Reservations are required, and large groups are asked to pre-order. The pub takes group bookings and hosts events such as family celebrations, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Food draws the most comment, and the Sunday carvery splits opinion. One diner found the meat cooked perfectly, with piping hot veg and potatoes and gravy spot on, while another got a thin sliver of meat, bland seasoning and what looked like packet Yorkshire puddings. Baked camembert, big enough to share, and pie and mash with crispy parsnip also earn praise, alongside a good beer and wine selection. The recurring complaint is disorganised service on larger or pre-ordered bookings. Reviewers describe forgotten dishes, plates arriving at different times, a wrong kids menu sent back, a missing sharing camembert, and drinks orders nobody took. One group found the nachos little more than Doritos and the seafood basket mostly scampi, and two diners objected to the service charge. A party of thirty was also asked to move six guests to another table. Hosts of a BBQ and a wake, however, describe smooth communication and food that went down well, with late arrivals and surprise dietary requirements handled as if no trouble.

“A ruined 50th wedding anniversary celebration Twelve of us visited The Windrush on Saturday 17 October to celebrate my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. We had been asked to pre-order because of our group size, yet the food and service were incredibly disorganised. Despite the pub being very quiet for 7.30pm on a Saturday, nobody came to take our drinks order. We had to keep going to the bar throughout the evening, and the rosé was served warm. We waited over an hour for starters, which arrived at different times and were extremely disappointing. The nachos appeared to be little more than Doritos. My parents’ sharing Camembert was missing, and when we chased it 20 minutes later, we were told it hadn’t even been started. The couple we were there to celebrate were left watching everyone else eat. The mains arrived in dribs and drabs and were equally poor. The seafood basket was a plate of deep-fried pieces that were difficult to identify and appeared to be mostly scampi. In my opinion, this was the worst restaurant meal I have ever had. Our pre-ordered chips arrived around 30 minutes after the mains. The vegetables were also missing and only appeared after we asked about them around 20 minutes later. The young staff seemed to be trying their best, but the evening was badly managed. Our bill was £400.67, including a £36.42 service charge—an outrageous price for the quality and service we experienced. This should have been a wonderful family celebration. Instead, we spent the evening waiting, chasing orders and eating separately. A deeply disappointing experience that spoiled a milestone occasion.”

“We have ben here for the last few hours and it’s been great! the service is absolutely amazing, the pub was full of customers which was very reassuring and created a great atmosphere. We have 3 children with us and they were entertained with the kids area and games so us adults could relax! great pub and would highly recommend!”

“Shocking service with the food. Forgot some of the dishes, with some arriving 20 minutes after the first plates were brought out. Had to chase up the kids menu, which when it did arrive, was wrong and had to be set back to the kitchen. And the poor waitress is left to try and explain where the food is, but no sign of a manager. I would understand more if they were busy, but we ordered our food in advance, and the re was hardly anyone else eating.”

“We drove over here with our little boy just. As soon as we opened the car door the horrendous stench of rotten off fish filled the air. Other diners seemed to be rushing out of the restaurant with a disgusted look on their faces from the stench! Filled our car as well to the point where we quickly had to make the call and leave and still our car smells of off fish 15 mins later. I hope you aren’t feeding your customers that if the smell alone has nearly made us all sick! 🤢 I tried to call you twice to make you aware but no answer so felt I needed to write a review. Yuck!”

“The team at the Windrush Pub helped us host a BBQ for 50 people. We wanted the event to feel relaxed and Mia was excellent at understanding what we wanted and making sure the night ran seamlessly. Communications were spot on leading up to the event, we really felt as though everything was under control and we just needed to turn up! The food was great - everyone had lots to eat and enjoyed the outside space. Any issues (such as guests arriving late, surprise dietary requirements etc.) were dealt with as if they were no trouble. I would highly recommend holding an event here, what ever the occasion.”
