Customer Review Summary
The complaints are mainly about service and consistency. One party was moved on repeatedly during live music, told they could not sit in the restaurant area or be served at the front bar, while others were poured sambuca shots. Another waited a long time for two dishes and found the burger bacon too fatty, the chips overfried and the brioche bun too crumbly. The harshest review calls the Sunday roast chewy and damp, with a frozen Yorkshire pudding and thin gravy. Another says the pub closed earlier than listed, leaving a would-be drinker turned away.

“The food was not bad but the service was terrible, we had dinner in the restaurant and then the live music started so we went to the bar at the front however, there was no room as it is only small so we went and sat back down in the other part of the restaurant to enjoy the live singer and got told we couldn’t be seated there and we should go back to the bar where there was no room. We then stud up in the front bar area in the doorway (as there was no room anywhere else) to try and have some enjoyment. We then went to the bar in the restaurant to get a drink to see people sat in the seat (being served) where we was told we could not sit. We then carried on and went up to the bar to order and she told us we could not get a drink there and had to go back into the other area yet she was literally pouring people sambuca shots at this said bar where we could not be served. We were completely singled out and I have no idea why. Genuinely terrible customer service after we had spent £80 on bang average food.”

“Came out of our way to come here. As we’re stopping across the road. At The Pheasant Inn. Literally left the Farmers Dog. It says close at 12. Nope. More like 11. If not earlier. If you like a drink. Then not for you.”

“Apparently this is the only pub in the country called The Cotswold Arms. It’s situated on the high street on the corner of Priory Lane in the village of Burford. There is seating in the beer garden at the back, a few seats at the front/side road as well as inside. It has a lovely interior and it serves a good choice of food and drinks.”

“We hosted a party in the back garden the day after our wedding. We were well tended to at the cotswold arms over the whole of the weekend - the staff did a brilliant job to be so hospitable. The cotswold arms is a cosy, quintessential cotswold pub with good pub food and good drinks. It has a great atmosphere - particularly if they have live music on! We look forward to returning when we come back to Burford”

“This pub is on one of the most beautiful streets in England, which makes it all the more disappointing when you mistakenly choose to dine here instead of in one of the other restaurants on the street. 1. The Sunday Roasts are abysmal: chewy, unappetising-looking meat accompanied by a frozen yorkshire pudding, what looked like a microwave bag of vegetables, and the thinnest, weakest gravy I’ve ever seen. It truly looked like a homemade Sunday roast someone would post on snapchat and you’d have to resist the urge to screenshot because it looks so bad. Somehow everything felt damp and wet?? To charge over £20 for this is criminal. 2. The staff were wholly unhelpful, unfriendly, and unwelcoming. I understand Sunday bank holiday weekend is a difficult shift, however I’ve worked such a shift without nigh on throwing customers’ utensils onto the table at them. 3. It is a shame that such a beautiful pub (exterior-wise) on such a beautiful street has been subject to the interior design that befalls The Cotswold Arms. 4. Just makes no sense at all. 5. Previously hinted at, however to reiterate the point, the price they charge you is actually insanity. Just because the pub is in a nice area that does not give you the right to charge customers £9 for soup that tastes like passata straight from the jar, £20 for salt with a side of gammon and eggs, and over £20 for the most foul Sunday Roast that I have ever had the displeasure of eating. The list could go on, however I can only grieve so much. All in all, avoid.”
