About The Old Pear Tree Inn
The Old Pear Tree Inn is a bar in Wigan on Frog Ln, where the kitchen changes its pies weekly, with lamb one week and cheese the next. A fire greets visitors as they walk in, and dogs are welcome. The menu also lists a bacon cheese burger and a three starters deal. Breakfast is served with an unlimited option, and afternoon tea comes as a large portion. The landlord or landlady works behind the bar, and the bar shows live sport, including women's rugby.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out a friendly welcome from the staff, the landlord and the locals, with a fire burning on a wet night and a bar team described as caring toward regulars. Food comes close behind. Diners name a lamb pie, a cheese pie the chef added after a customer suggested it, a bacon cheese burger, a southern fried chicken burger, rump steak, and an afternoon tea so large one reviewer could not finish it. A three-starter offer and a breakfast also earn praise, and several call the food and drinks reasonably priced. The main caveat is about the past. One returning customer says a visit under the previous management left them with little interest in coming back, and the change since the reopening won them round. Another found the first bite of the cheese pie underwhelming before the cheesiness arrived. Small touches close out the praise: a pint poured without a half-inch of head, and music turned down when a diner asked.

“A warm welcome. Not only the fire as you walk in on a wet dark Thursday night but also the staff and locals. Dropped in after having a Chinese next door. Pint of tennents in Wigan! £3.70 Friendly atmosphere and you can see the staff care about the locals ensuring those who need a little help are safe. Thanks for the welcome as I stopped off on my way home to Scotland.”
