About Wigan Central

Wigan Central is a railway-themed bar in Wigan, on Arch 1 Queen St under the railway bridge by North Western station. Railway artifacts and decor fill the pub, tying it to the line running overhead. The cask ales on tap number seven or more, and further beers are served from the keg. A large selection of canned beers is stocked as well. Two distinct drinking areas give groups and smaller parties room to settle in, and the bar is walk-in. Light bites and snacks come out of the kitchen, including cheese and pickle boards that pair with the ales. Live music is on at times.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers come above all for the beer, praising a wide range of cask ales and session IPAs on tap or from the keg, plus an even larger selection of cans to take away. The railway theme gets repeated mention, from the spot under the bridge near the station to two distinct drinking areas and an interesting collection of artifacts. Several describe a good atmosphere, pleasantly busy with locals before a match, with live music at times and a Belgian beer festival drawing one visitor. Food draws mixed comments. One reviewer found the cold pies unappetising and the plate of biscuits, cheeses and pickle minimalistic and poor value, another says they never saw food served, and a third mentions some interesting food offerings. One reviewer wished for a basic cocktail or a Red Bull vodka for a picky granddaughter. Staff are called friendly, informative and knowledgeable, and one reviewer describes the bar team making recommendations and explaining the background of the canned takeaway selection.

“I haven't seen food served here although I've seen it suggested on google. I've been here several times roughly between 3-8pm and it's been pleasantly busy with a good atmosphere. Live music on at times. Definitely worth a visit.”

“Argyle on tour 😃‼️My 2nd pub in Wigan after taking 7hrs on the train. Nice pub underneath the main railway line and by the bridge. Nice ambiance with some good beers and session IPAs and getting busy as the locals grab a pint or two before going to watch Wigan. The cold pies didn’t look appetising so I had some biscuits and different cheeses and pickle. Have to say for £6.95 it was minimalistic and not good value. Nevertheless it was a happy friendly pub and had a good vibe and feel to it. It was still a good 25 minutes to the stadium but all was well as we beat them 3 - 0 ‼️😃And….we get to go back to sunny Plymouth….”
