About The Anvil
The Anvil is a real ale pub on Dorning St in Wigan, with around seven cask ales on at once and real cider alongside them. Dogs are welcome. The open-plan layout is divided into separate drinking areas with plenty of seating, and the rear holds the quieter spots. Several large TV screens show sports channels, so multiple games can run at the same time. The pub sits a short walk from Wigan Wallgate station and close to the town's rail stations.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers point first to the real ales, with a cask selection that several call superbly kept and one says is spot on. One reviewer counts seven ales on offer, another singles out an Old Boston plum porter, and cider gets a mention too. Close behind is the service, described as very quick even when busy, with one reviewer served by the barmaid straight away. Many call it a proper old school or old fashioned pub, and one calls it a realistic alternative to Spoons. Large screens show sports, with three different games on at once for one visitor. The seating is called decent, open plan but divided into drinking areas, with quieter spots at the rear. The main trade-off is that it can get busy on rugby and football match days. One reviewer likes the absence of children, and others mention the short walk from the Wigan rail stations. A visitor stopping for a quick pint before a Wigan Athletic match is served fast.

“Anyone wanting to know how cask ale should be like should pay a visit very pleasant staff , the beer is 300% absolutely spot on, and that is very very hard to find these days well done to all concerned , another plus , just mine , is the absent of children ,makes a change from having to listen to kids screaming around definitely be going back for a second visit, these places are so very hard to find”
