About The Boulevard
The Boulevard is a live music bar at 19 Wallgate in Wigan, with a rock and alternative leaning and a separate rear room built around its stage. That room hosts gigs, tribute acts and DIY shows, and it opens when a band is on. The stage sits at the back right, with a small dance floor beside it in a small venue. A free monthly heavy metal night gives local rock fans a regular date, and the bar also runs a quiz night, karaoke and an open mic night. The drinks list includes The Trooper Beer and Its Whiskey Lol, and beer is on tap. A late licence covers late-night drinking, and drinks are served in plastic cups.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often come for the live gigs in the back room, where tribute acts like a Joy Division tribute and local bands get praised for good sound and a close, small-venue vibe with the crowd near the stage. Close behind is the Thursday quiz and karaoke, described as fun and welcoming, alongside a Sunday open mic and a free monthly heavy metal night. Beer on tap and drinks are called decently priced and sensible by several. Staff are called friendly and great by a few, though one performing band felt rushed and bossed about. The complaints are specific: one reviewer says the venue is no longer the rock bar it was, with rock karaoke repeating the same pop songs, the back room closed unless a band is on, limited seating, a very small dance floor and a queue for the main toilets. Another was asked to leave mid pint for wearing shorts, and found plastic cups and no imported Lowenbrau or Veltins. One more prefers it kept purely as a rock music venue on normal nights. Several fans of the gigs still say they would return.

“Nice little place, went to see a mates band. Decent set up and the staff were great. First time there but would visit again”

“Not the great rock bar it once was, seems to get full of scallys wandering in on a Saturday night, rock karaoke has descended into the same group of people singing the same depressing pop songs occasionally they still have bands on and if the duke box or DJ is on that can make for a good night and there is a good selection of drinks, don’t stand still too long or you will get stuck to the floor also they never have the back room open anymore unless there’s a band on so seating is limited and dance floor is very small! The back toilets are nicer but never open and there’s always a queue in the main ones”

“First time here to watch a tribute band. Good sound, decently priced drinks, cool little venue.”

“Visited in December 2025 to watch a Joy Division Tribute. The rear section has a stage area at the back right. Bit of a strange layout and can't accommodate many but it does create a great vibe and allow for the crowd and band to get close! good sound. Arrive early and make sure you get a good spot!”

“Always enjoyed this alternative/rock venue, it’s a rough and ready dive bar with good beer and open late. Went last night and it’s plastic cups and generic UK beer, no imported Lowenbrau or Veltins that used to be on. To top it off I got asked to leave mid pint due to wearing shorts! Boulevard is the last place in town I’d have expected to have a dress code especially with some of the weird and wonderful attire I’ve witnessed in there lol.”
