About Holts Arms
Holts Arms is a gastropub on Crank Rd in Wigan, set in an old building of around 300 years with beams and low ceilings. From the front it looks like a small pub, and the low sections inside call for a watchful head. The bar pours cask ales and stocks over 70 gins, and a log burner is part of the room. The kitchen makes its food in house, with Really dirty fries as a sharer, a sausage Yorkshire pudding burger and an oriental vegan burger on the menu. A private area can be booked for large groups. The pub opens Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays. Dogs are welcome, and dog treats are on hand for them.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the food and the friendly staff at this old pub, with the really dirty fries sharer, the salmon, the sausage Yorkshire pudding burger and a wrap with extra salad in place of chips all singled out. Staff are described as lovely and efficient, handling a large family gathering in a private area on time and quickly fixing a starter mistake on a packed, sunny day. Reviewers also like the big beer garden at the back and note the low beams and tight bar area. The complaints are specific. One group booked and was seated by the front door next to a noisy bar, then received a wrong third meal and a replacement that was still partly wrong, with small portions. Another found the vegan oriental burger patty to be sweetcorny potato mush with unripe avocado, and the chips oily and soggy. A third said the burger meat seemed straight from the freezer and wanted salad and sauce included. Others mention dog treats and a log burner.

“Visited for the third time today and it was just as good as previous visits. This cosy pub is welcoming and friendly. The staff are lovely and the food excellent. Good choice on the menu and instead of chips I was able to double up on the salad with my wrap which was gorgeous. One of the nicest old (300 years old!!) pubs I’ve been too!”

“First time here, 5 adults and 2 children. Visited 630pm on a very sunny and warm Saturday 23rd May 2026 evening and beer garden was very busy, and had been all day It's like a tardis, from the front it looks like a small pub but at the back is a great sized beer garden with plenty of cover if it's too sunny. Quality of meals was very good, we didn't have puddings, but starter and main course were great and very good size portions. Service from the team was very polite, efficient and nothing was too much trouble, especially after a very busy day. One mistake with a starter which we think may have been our mistake was rectified with no issues and quickly. The bar area is a bit tight to order drinks and anyone over 6ft watch your head on some of the beams Prices were reasonable, in line with many other pubs. There is limited car parking in front of the pub, but there is a another reasonable sized car park just to the side. Overall, would definitely visit again”

“Our first time here. Booked a table for 3 people. Very disappointed to arrive & find out the table was by the front door & where every man & his dog constantly walk by all the time & by the bar which was noisey with people just there for a drink & a loud time. Ordered & paid for our meal, 2 meals turned up, 3rd then arrived which wasn’t what we ordered so had to wait for replacement. When that turned up , part of the order was still wrong & did not look half as good as what others were getting of that dish. Food portions small to be honest. Would we go again , sadly not.”

“Attended the Holts arms today for a large family gathering around twenty people. The food came out on time and was absolutely delicious. We booked a private area which was ideal. Lucie the manager was just lovely and nothing was too much trouble including changing orders etc.. It was a sunny day hence the pub was packed including beer garden. All the staff were lovely and extremely organised, completely on it. I would strongly advise anyone to visit this place. Thankyou so much 💓”
