Quick info
About The Lobster Shack
The Lobster Shack is a seafood restaurant in Whitstable, set right on the harbour at The Harbour East Quay. The menu runs from lobster and chips to a lobster and shrimp roll served with salad and chips, and beers sit alongside the seafood plates. An early-evening oyster happy hour offers half-price oysters, served with Guinness. A guitarist plays live music, and the restaurant takes walk-ins, with dogs welcome. Guests reach the door on foot along an industrial road past a factory.

Customer Review Summary
Oysters are what reviewers return to most, praised as the standout and often ordered during the half-price happy hour, with one pairing them with Guinness. Close behind are the lobster and shrimp roll and the lobster and chips, both called delicious, along with fish and chips that a couple of diners found wonderful. One reviewer chose a seafood platter with Marie Rose and aioli, adding chips and mushy peas. Staff are described as warm, friendly and happy to share recommendations, and the live guitar and the harbour setting also get mentions. The caveats are specific. One diner found the service slow, had to keep flagging down staff, and objected to a service charge added when ordering online. Another found the cod missing seasoning, and one said the drinks need sturdier glasses. A few call the walk up past a factory road disappointing, though they found the restaurant itself lovely once there. One reviewer remarked that staff even asked before clearing the table.

“Our first food experience in Whitstable... and what a fantastic choice it turned out to be! The staff were absolutely amazing, warm, and genuinely friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The oysters were simply mind-blowing....more importantly, palate-blowing! Easily the best I've had in the area. Combined with stunning views, whether you sit inside, outside, or in the sheltered outdoor seating area when the wind picks up, this place offers a wonderful dining experience. If you're a seafood lover, this is an absolute must-visit. Highly recommended!”

“Amazing place by the sea directly! If you visit Whitstable you should give it a try. We ordered Lobster and Chips, it was delicious 😋my wife had the Cod and Ships, it wasn’t the best version, was missing some taste or seasoning. But the overall experience was lovely!”

“Great food … we had the lobster and shrimp roll with salad and chips all excellent. But drinks need to be served in something more sturdy!!”
