Customer Review Summary
Fish pie comes up most often, described as tasty and flavourful, and one diner wished for the appetite to order it after seeing another table's. Close behind are the mussels, with a generous portion, and the mussel bisque with alioli, along with a vanilla cheesecake called unforgettable and another cheesecake reviewers say to save room for. Others single out the oysters, grilled mackerel, sole, crab claws, tuna crudo and fresh bread. Service draws steady praise as friendly, attentive and honest, and reviewers describe a relaxed room where conversation is easy. The one caveat is portion size. A single reviewer called the gnocchi the best they had eaten but found it small, around ten bites. The waitress had warned them and suggested a side. The restaurant is small, and one reviewer advises calling ahead because every table was in use. One diner was so taken with the bouillabaisse special that they popped into the kitchen to thank the chefs.

“The food is amazing ( whitebait, steak and sticky toffee pudding) but the staff are even better. Lovely local restaurant, great ambience ( you can have a conversation) with gentle background music. Definitely our number one choice in Whitstable.”

“We visited Whitstable and really liked the menu so went in for lunch. I had the fish pie and it was very tasty and flavourful. My friends also really enjoyed their meals. I look forward to going back with family, highly recommended 😀”

“Regret not to have a full dinner here because we had to go before dinner time, but wanted to try some seafood. So we only had 3 dishes - oysters, grilled mackerel and a green salad. The oysters tasted so much better when compared with those in the harbour stalls! (I shouldn’t have bought those oysters in the stalls near the seaside because it was a waste of money even they were cheap.) They were fresh, substantial and rich in flavour! The grilled mackerel came with the aroma of grilled fish skin and fish oil. The fish meat tasted good. But what I was impressed with was the tomato in the salad. They must have been marinated in a special way, juicy and good taste. I saw a fish pie consumed by a lady sitting next to me. Wish I had the appetite at that time. There was a service charge of 12.5% included.”

“Three of us went for dinner and were so impressed. The service was great. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and looking into the restaurant or out onto the high street makes for a good view whilst eating. It was nice and busy so had a good buzz. The tuna crudo to start was a stand out and the special which was a bouillabaisse was absolutely amazing and one of the nicest main courses I have had all year so much so I had to pop my head in the kitchen and thank the chefs. Good selection of wine and drinks to go with lots of food options.”

“Honestly one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. The staff were brilliant from start to finish — really attentive without ever being overbearing, and the whole place just had a lovely relaxed feel to it. We started with the crab claws, followed by the bacon chop and rump steak (blue, of course), all with a really nice bottle of red. Everything was cooked absolutely perfectly and you can tell there’s some serious talent in the kitchen. Couldn’t fault a thing. Fantastic food, great service and a genuinely lovely evening. We’ll definitely be back.”
