Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the seafood starters, with king prawns in garlic butter and mussels named in more than one review as fresh and full of flavour. Close behind are the lobster soup and the lobster and crab bisque, plus a monkfish main described as cooked well. A seafood platter shared between three also earns praise, and one diner finished with Whitstable mess. The beef wellington divides opinion: one reviewer found it delightful, especially the vegetables served with it, while another thought it very big and a bit too rich. One reviewer's only drawback was a single server managing a busy room while the phone rang endlessly. Staff are described as friendly and helpful, the atmosphere as calm and charming, and one family's vegan member was treated like family. One reviewer recommends booking, though a walk-in was welcomed at the bar. Reviewers also note it is dog friendly, and one elderly dog received two bowls of water from two different staff members.

“Great bistro with lots of fish. The seafood platter was great with a good selection which we shared between 3 of us. The beef wellington was very big and a bit too rich for our tastes but the monk fish was cooked well and was very good. The king prawns were also very good”

“Really nice welcome even though I didn't reserve a table. Walking can still eat here at the bar. I had the lobster and crab bisque. It tasted lovely and just the moderate portion I appreciated. The staff were helpful and aware of the Town and places of interests were recommended but not apart of the service. The atmosphere is calm and mature. I would revisit to try a main with a reservation. Many thanks Glow”

“We had a wonderful anniversary meal here last night, we had the king prawns in garlic butter and the mussels to start and then I had the chicken balatine and hubby had the monkfish, both dishes came with baked new potatoes and buttered cabbage and herby stuffed tomatoes. This has to be the best meal we have ever had anywhere, honestly every mouthful was delicious, so fresh and full of flavour. The service was excellent, very attentive but not too intrusive, we brought our elderly dog as they are dog friendly and even though the place was very busy(I can see why),she was given lots of attention and ended up with two bowls of water from two different members of staff. I cannot praise Birdies highly enough and we will definitely book again for our next visit to whitstable, which will be soon i hope.”

“Came here with my boyfriend last night and the food was to die for! The beef wellington was delightful but surprisingly, the star of the show was the vegetables that came with it. The staff were friendly and attentive, special thanks to the waitress who answered our questions. We would definitely come back and would recommend booking for those who are interested in visiting.”
