Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers praise the food, singling out the Kathmandu jeera chicken and the Wednesday Banquet menu of five courses as good value. Several call the dishes delicious, fresh and full of flavour, with big portions and plenty of choice across Indian and Bangladeshi cooking. Close behind is the staff, described as friendly, welcoming and attentive, with a calm, lovely atmosphere. Not everyone agrees. A few reviewers report greasy chicken dishes and rice, a burnt naan, more onion than meat, and a jalfrezi without the peppers it should have had, plus flat soft drinks that were not replaced when asked. Two mention an unfriendly man on the phone or at the door. One takeaway customer says an online order was paid for and then refused because the restaurant was closed, leaving them to chase a refund through the payment operator. Even so, another takeaway diner recalls small complimentary chocolate bars and drinks while waiting for their food.

“Absolutely fantastic experience! The food was fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Great atmosphere and excellent service—one of the best Indian restaurants in Canterbury. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely be back!”

“Ordered online as the website and Google said they were open for business. Spent £39.00 and then the payment was taken from my account but the order was refused. Rang them up and was told to ring the order operator that took the payment. I had no empathy from star of bengal and just got told they were closed. When I asked why it was advertised that they were open, why the ordering system allowed me to still order and also why they were in the building answering the phone to me if they were closed, they just ignored it and told me to ring this place to get a refund! Disgusting place and disgusting non existence service! Still 39.00 down the day after and have to wait 3-5 business days to get my money back! They should have offered to bring my refund to my address in cash if you ask me! But nothing robbers!”

“I usually come to Star of Bengal in the evenings for dinner, and it’s always a great experience. The atmosphere is calm and pleasant, making it a really nice place to relax and enjoy your meal. The staff are attentive and take good care of you, they’re always aware of what you need without being intrusive. As the name suggests, they serve a wide variety of Indian and Bangladeshi dishes. The menu has plenty of choice, and everything I’ve tried has been very tasty. If you’re in Whitstable or just passing through, I definitely recommend giving it a try at least once!”
