Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly, welcoming staff, from bar staff who pour regulars' drinks before they order to a server who bought a bereaved customer a drink. Food comes close behind, with the roast lamb and sticky toffee pudding with custard, the salmon, the vegetable pie, the filthy fries and a burger on a real bun all called delicious or outstanding. One reviewer also notes allergies were handled to a high standard. The historic barn draws praise for its open fire, fairy lights and beautiful garden, and one reviewer mentions it is dog friendly. The criticism is narrower. One lunch diner found the black pudding scotch egg bland, with little black pudding, a jellied yolk and a bacon sauce that tasted only of mayonnaise, while another found the Sunday roast meat a little fatty. One reviewer recommends booking. Families describe children feeding the fish in the garden with food provided by the bar.

“Visited on recommendation from the sister pub The Ship Inn. A lovely setting, very friendly and helpful staff, told us a bit of the history of the barn. The menu choice was varied, we had the salmon and the vegetable pie, both delicious. A big Thankyou to all the staff on such a hot day, especially Ella who served us 😁”

“Called in for Easter Sundays lunch (table 34) . Met by the bar, confirmed our booking and shown to our seats where we were given our menu. Staff took our drinks order and came back a short time afterwards for our food order. We both ordered the same, roast lamb with vegetables and sticky toffee pudding with custard to follow. Food was excellent, tender sweet lamb with a nice mix of vegetables. Pudding was just as good, won't be eating for the rest of the day ! Although very busy, all the staff were excellent and food was within a reasonable time scale and hot. Thanks all”

“We visited The Chestfield Barn this evening, and it truly felt like a home from home. The staff have always been incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the food is consistently amazing. The place itself has so much character and a real atmosphere, beautifully illuminated by fairy lights, with an open fire and comfortable sofas where you can relax and unwind. The bar staff know us so well that our drinks are often poured before we’ve even had the chance to order, which always makes us smile. I would especially like to mention Emma, who showed such kindness and thoughtfulness during our visit. After learning that I had sadly lost my mum over the weekend, she very kindly bought me a drink. It was completely unexpected and meant more to me than she will ever know. We regularly visit with our two children, Christopher and Jennifer, particularly during the warmer summer months. Sitting in the beautiful gardens while the children feed the fish with food provided by the bar is always a highlight and creates such special family memories. I’ve been coming to The Chestfield Barn for many years and have even brought my parents here, who absolutely loved it too. Sadly, they are no longer with us, but this place holds so many happy memories for me and my family. We genuinely love visiting The Chestfield Barn – it’s not just a pub, it’s a place filled with warmth, kindness, and wonderful people. Thank you to Emma and the whole team for making it so special.. Ian & Lesley”
