About Socialite Rooftop Bar & Terrace

Socialite Rooftop Bar & Terrace is a rooftop bar and restaurant in Canterbury, on the 5th floor of the Hampton by Hilton at 8 St Margaret's St, just off the main high street. The terrace looks out toward Canterbury Cathedral, which gives drinkers a view over the city, and it has sofas. The drinks list pairs a cocktail menu with a wine selection, and non-alcoholic options sit alongside both. On the food side, the restaurant menu includes steaks and truffle fries. A happy hour discounts cocktails, with offers such as buy one get one free or half price. A three-course pre-theatre menu comes with a glass of wine, and the Marlowe Theatre is nearby. A DJ plays on the premises.

“Fantastic Rooftop Experience in Canterbury! If you’re looking for a spot in Canterbury with breathtaking views, this rooftop bar is an absolute gem! The view of Canterbury Cathedral is simply stunning — especially at sunset when the light hits the stonework just right. You can see the whole skyline in all its glory while enjoying great drinks and a lively atmosphere. Happy Hour is a real treat here — buy one, get one free — which makes it even better. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was top notch too — fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. Every dish we tried was spot-on, from the small plates to the mains. It’s the perfect place for a relaxed evening with friends or a romantic night out. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Canterbury!”

“What a great place to sit, relax and enjoy the views, especially on a lovely sunny afternoon. The seating was very comfortable and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our drinks were served quickly and were both tasty and well presented. Its obviously very popular because it was very busy and not many free seats.”

“This restaurant tries to be trendy, normally this fails, but in the case of the Socialite, it succeeds. Not only is the place obviously attractive in location and decor, but the food and service is very good. There is something for everyone here, a great view, a DJ and fun surroundings. There is real thought put into the place, including very good acoustics, which mean conversations are easy, without a stuffy atmosphere. It’s not cheap, but I have been several times now and would happily return again.”

“The view is really nice and wherever you sit, you can enjoy the view. Non-alcoholic option is available. The food menu is not very spacious, but mostly with its drinks. It is not a place for children. It's a good option to listen to the head during the day and have fun in the evening”

“The rooftop dining experience was truly exquisite. The breathtaking view of the cathedral added a magical touch to our evening. The attentive staff catered to our every need, enhancing the overall ambiance. However, the 12% service charge in Canterbury felt a tad excessive. Nonetheless, a five-star experience worth savoring.”

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return above all for the view of Canterbury Cathedral from the terrace, especially at sunset, and pair it with cocktails and a wine selection they call fantastic. Close behind are the food, with truffle fries and steaks cooked to perfection singled out, and a pre-theatre menu described as good value. Happy hour is mentioned several times, with one reviewer noting buy one get one free and another half-price cocktails. Staff are described as friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about drinks. The caveats are cost and a few specific gripes: the drinks are called very expensive, one finds the 12% service charge excessive, and the food menu is called small. One group felt pushed to order a round around 2215 when last orders were announced for 2230, then saw orders still being taken close to 2245. Another reviewer notes the evenings on the rooftop get chilly outside of high summer, and one says it is not a place for children. Reviewers keep coming back to sitting out on the terrace with the cathedral lit up in front of them.
