About The Combermere Arms
The Combermere Arms is a pub on Burleydam in Whitchurch, housed in a building that dates from the 1540s and laid out as a jumble of nooks and crannies. It is a Cheshire country inn with log fires inside, and a selection of ales sits on the bar. The kitchen serves pies and a roast lunch, with a squid or calamari starter on the menu. A gluten-free menu covers nearly every item, including gluten-free fish and chips, so guests avoiding gluten can order from the same list as everyone else. To finish, a small pudding is offered alongside a hot drink.

Customer Review Summary
The main complaint is one detailed visit from a large birthday party. The pork belly starter was very thin, the calamari was anaemic, the beef salad was mostly cabbage, and the chips were sent back for having no colour. The waiter apologised and left, and the diners found service slow and the dishes over priced. A few others also call the pricing higher, though they say it matches the quality.

“I never complain but: Eight of us ate at the Combermere Inn on Tuesday 11th August, a table of 7 at 6:30pm, a 13th birthday dinner, venue chose by the birthday girl. The pork belly starter was very thin (not much thicker than a very fat rasher of bacon), the calamari was aneamic. We told the waiter, who said sorry and left. The beef salad was mainly cabbage, there was only 4 potato wedges with the pork steak & a very small side salad. The ribeye steak was good except we had to sent the chips back as they had no colour and the the salad was limp. The children's food was fine as was the fish and chips. Very poor presentation and slow service, over priced for what was delivered.”

“Just back from having lunch. Squid starter followed by light bite meal, home made quiche with potato salad and salad. Beautifully presented. Staff were very courteous and helpful. Hopefully we'll be back for Sunday lunch!”

“What a really lovely pub, we all had variants of the pies, they were all really tasty. The staff and the owners were really friendly, service was great. Definitely worth a visit. Support local business, especially when they are outstanding.”

“Quaint countryside Pub. Warm welcome, friendly staff. Food in all was ok, good pub food.”

“Had Sunday lunch here this week. Lovely classic country pub with a delicious roast. The beef wasn't quite pink as advertised, but it was very tender so not worth marking down. Lovely selection of ales on the bar. The small pudding and a hot drink option is perfect for after a large meal, where you just want a little something sweet. Another great B&P Pub.”

Good to know
“The Combermere has a long and proud history as a pub - it dates from the 1540's and is a jumble of nooks and crannies, and we've tried hard to preserve the character of the building, which after all was what attracted us to the pub in the first place. It is a classic Cheshire country inn to the bottom of its venerable boots, and pretty much sums up everything we love about pubs.”
