Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the welcoming, accommodating staff: a party of 14 handled flexibly when one couple ran late, a dog and a newborn made welcome, and a bartender who made a drink that fitted perfectly for someone who rarely drinks. Food comes close behind, with pie of the day, skewers, a chorizo and padrón pepper starter, and a slow cooked shin described as perfection, plus a hot three-course Valentine's menu. A few also mention the peaceful atmosphere and a newly introduced live band for the Jazz Festival. The complaints are specific. One reviewer describes main courses arriving very late on a Saturday that was not full, a dry and chewy chicken skewer, and two of three draught beers unavailable, then none the next day with the same pipe cleaning notice still up. Another missed the roses and fairy lights from the previous year's Valentine's meal. A third was given only one knife and fork for three courses and had to keep asking for more, including a spoon for the dessert.

“Had an evening meal here on a Saturday whilst staying at the adjacent Premier Inn. The service was atrocious. The main courses arrived 90 minutes after we had ordered them. Even the "nibbles" to eat with our drinks whilst waiting took 75 minutes. The only explanation offered by the staff was that the restaurant was busy, but in reality it wasn't close to being full at any time during the evening. My main course, a chicken skewer, was dry and chewy. Of the three draught beers on the bar, two were unavailable. A notice said their pipes were being cleaned and they would be available again shortly, but they remained unavailable all evening. The following day, Sunday, we visited the Peacock again just for a drink. This time none of the draught beers were available. The notice about pipe cleaning was still in place. Over a summer weekend, a well run pub should not run out of most of its draught beer on the Saturday and all of it during Sunday. The staff were all friendly enough but that didn't make up for the serious failings of the establishment.”

“We were a party of 14 meeting up before a wedding the next day. Mark and the team were very welcoming, and super flexible too, as one couple were late due to traffic. The food was excellent. Chorizo sausage and padrón pepper started were perfect. Pie of the day and skewers were great too. We all had a great time, not just the food, but the hospitality of Mark and his team. We will be back.”

“Enjoyed a relaxing meal and catch up with a friend at The Peacock Inn today. The food was lovely with a wide variety of dishes to choose from catering for all budgets and needs. We were made most welcome and the service from Sam and Mark was excellent. My dog was also welcomed and we were able to choose an appropriate seating area near to the bar. I noted how peaceful it was in there which allowed my friend and I to chat comfortably. A lovely place to unwind ! Thank you.”

“Nice food but you don’t get given cutlery! When I arrived I got the impression that the staff were over worked and busy. I was told to “wait a moment” when I arrived at the bar. I also noticed that a few other customers were welcomed with that shouted greeting. When I ordered a 3 course meal, I was given a tankard with only one knife and fork. I had to keep asking for subsequent cutlery sets, my dessert was nice but it was just a shame I had to stare at it for 20 minutes before I was given a spoon.”
