Quick info
About The George Bar & Grill
The George Bar & Grill is a family-owned bar and grill on Custom House Quay in Weymouth, right beside the working harbour at number 2. The building dates to the 17th century, when it was a tavern owned by Sir Samuel Mico, so meals are served inside a historic harbourside property. The kitchen covers breakfast, a lunch menu and a regular menu, and a carvery is served with a chef at the board. A specials board carries fresh seafood, including halibut with creamy mash and capers, while fish and chips stays on the main menu. The team takes walk-ins and short-notice bookings. The doors are open daily.

Customer Review Summary
The carvery draws the strongest praise, with one reviewer calling the Easter Sunday version fantastic and another describing it as fresh, hot and tasty. Close behind are the fish dishes: two diners enjoyed the salmon, one table also had the linguini, and a regular orders the halibut with creamy mash and capers from the specials board. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and welcoming, including towards a toddler, and two reviewers say a table was found without a booking or with only hours of notice. The complaints are specific. One reviewer called the grilled chicken a travesty that looked like a bad school dinner, and another found the burger small and cooked to death. A returning diner found the menu smaller than online, with no steak knives and garlic bread reduced to a roll with garlic butter. One reviewer describes a bartender who forgot an order and food dropped off with cutlery left inside. Several single out the harbour location, especially sitting out front watching boats come in and out.

“This Pub was a bit of a disappointment...🫤 Some parts are good, some are terrible... The general layout and especially the outside seating overlooking the Harbour are great 👍 The Service is really good, quick and friendly 👍 The drinks selection is good and reasonably priced, then onto the food...👀 The Grilled Chicken is an absolute travesty - it looks like a bad School Dinner and tasted way worse 🤢🤢 Strangely the Fish and Chips are okay though (so not all bad...). I wouldn't go back here in a rush, there's way better places nearby...👎”

“Rude little blonde bartender. Forgot my order. Needed reminding after she served 4 others. And then after her absolute crap service they dropped the food on the table and said if you want cutlery its inside. Yet the table next to us got condiments and cutlery brought to the table. Not the best food but will do.. Didn't seem frozen but chef needs to learn how to make a burger patty. This was a small cooked to death strangely shaped burger. The best thing about this place is the location.”

“A family of 8 people, in early July booked a table space literally hours before. They were able to seat and feed us . An excellent meal in good company. My mother said the waiter who took our orders looked all of 12 years old! Great to see young adults getting experience in the hospitality industry. Thankyou George for a great meal to join our conversation!”

“Our favourite place to visit every time we come to Weymouth. The food is always fresh and tasty and the beer is ice cold. Service is always friendly and welcoming, even on busy days. Reasonable prices for a popular area near the Quay. The hours drift away sitting out front, watching the boats come in and out. They also do a banging breakfast”

“After a fantastic evening last year, feel like the quality has slipped slightly this year. Menu is alot smaller than online. We ended up having the steak meal deal. Food was very good but small things like no steak knives make a difference to the experience. Also garlic bread last year was amazing, a little cottage loaf, this year was just a bread roll with garlic butter on. Although we still enjoyed it I would think twice about going back as competition with other restaurants nearby is very high. Staff were still very nice and friendly.”
