About THE STAR STANDON
THE STAR STANDON is a gastropub at 62 High St in Ware, now under new management. The kitchen works from a pub menu that includes roast dinners, with cauliflower cheese served alongside. A fish night adds specials, with scallops as a starter and smoked haddock with poached egg as a main. Dessert includes a pain au chocolate bread and butter pudding. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is the main draw, with reviewers praising tender meat, proper roasties and the cauliflower cheese, which one calls not to be missed. Close behind are the Friday fish night specials, where scallops to start and a smoked haddock main with poached egg earn mention, along with the salmon, a burger and a sticky toffee dessert. A pain au chocolate bread and butter pudding also catches one diner's eye. Many describe friendly, relaxed staff, a warm atmosphere and a comfortable dining area, and one notes the pub makes a fuss of their dog. Several mention the pub having recently changed hands and feeling transformed. The main complaint comes from a returning regular who was disappointed by a roast with overcooked roast potatoes, and who felt a bill for two roast beef dinners plus a vodka and a half pint of beer was not good value. Another reviewer's booking mix-up was handled well by staff, and they were soon seated for their Sunday roast.

“We love it here. Staff our great, make a big fuss of our dog too each time we go with him. Food is lovely. Beer good. Outside area is nice as lots of tables to accommodate.”

“Have been to the star many. Always had great food. Today I left disappointed. Had the roast which was realy. But afraid the roast potatoes. We’re realy. And over cooked. Service was very good. But for two roast beef dinners. Vodka and half pint beer costing £92. Was not good”

“We appreciated being squeezed in at short notice on a Friday evening. Waiting staff were all excellent, and each possessed a classic service style - relaxed and friendly yet polite and customer-focused - something that is all too rare these days. The decor is charming and the dining area very comfortable. Food was absolutely delicious, and very reasonably prices. Highly recommended and we'd definitely go back.”

“Recently been taken over, and in my opinion totally transformed. Excellent service & food served in a tasteful setting. Well thought out menu, I had the burger & the sticky toffee and was superb! All our guests complimented the food & service throughout. Thank you to the team and keep doing what you are doing, we will be back. B”
