Customer Review Summary

The complaints centre on drinks and attitude. A mango lassi came watery and a mocktail tasted like plain sparkling water, and in both cases staff insisted that was how it is made. One reviewer was told refunds were not given before eventually getting one. Another says staff refused to honour a Too Good To Go reward voucher for twenty percent off. Food comments were mixed: aloo pakora like seasoned potato slices, dry chicken on loaded fries, and heavy garam masala.

“Aa regular Chaiiwala customers, our experience at Walsall branch on 16/10/2026, at ~2330, was shocking FIRSTLY Refusal to honour a legitimate promotional voucher On 15/10/26 I purchased a Surprise Bag from this branch through the Too Good To Go app. Upon collecting it, I received a reward offering 20% off a subsequent in-store purchase of at least £10. The following evening, I returned and attempted to use the reward on an order totalling £15.85. I explained the offer to the staff member serving us, showed her the voucher directly on my phone and swiped to redeem it right in front of her. Despite witnessing this, she then proceeded to dispute that the offer even existed! What followed was a frankly ridiculous, nonsensical circular argument. She variously claimed that the voucher could only be used to purchase items within the Too Good To Go app itself, that the offer did not exist, or that an entirely unrelated notification about an expired summer event somehow meant my discount was invalid. Too Good To Go's own published terms explicitly confirm that these rewards are intended for subsequent in-store purchases and are redeemed by swiping within the app. My app also clearly records that the reward was redeemed on 16 October 2026. Rather than acknowledging what she had just witnessed or attempting to establish how to honour the voucher, the employee repeatedly insisted she could not help because there was no 20% discount button on the till. An inability to operate the till should not be the customer's problem. SECONDLY The appalling attitude and customer service Throughout the interaction, the staff member was dismissive, argumentative and seemingly unwilling to listen to anything I explained. She repeatedly switched to Hindi when speaking to another employee, in a tone and manner I found disparaging. What she did not realise was that I am fluent in Hindi myself and understood the exchanges. My concern was not that staff were speaking Hindi. It was the way the conversation was conducted and the apparent disparagement of a customer standing directly in front of them. She eventually phoned her manager, again speaking in Hindi. Rather than providing a fair adequate and accurate explanation of the situation, she characterised me as an annoying customer demanding a 20% discount from "some app" she did not recognise. There was no meaningful attempt by either the employee or the manager to investigate or resolve the matter. After repeatedly explaining the same facts and getting nowhere, I stated that I would pay the full amount and raise a formal complaint later. I was not prepared to continue an increasingly unpleasant confrontation THIRDLY Most concerningly, the condition of our drinks After leaving the premises, we discovered that one of the Pink Chaii drinks contained an extraordinary quantity of thick, congealed nut material. This was not simply the usual sprinkling of crushed nuts on top as we had another drink to compare with. There were large, dense clumps of nut mixture throughout the drink, with an excessive quantity of solid material occupying a substantial portion of the cup. I have attached photographs showing this and will forward videos to the appropriate people. What makes this particularly concerning is that the second Pink Chaii in the same order, was normal containing only the usual light sprinkling of nuts on top. We have purchased this drink before and know what its normal preparation looks like. The difference between the two was striking. Discovering such an abnormal drink immediately after an unnecessarily confrontational disagreement with staff naturally raised serious questions about how it had been prepared. It was so concerning that we no longer felt comfortable consuming any of the drinks we had purchased and do disposed of the entire order. I intend to report this onwards to Chaiiwala head office and report the food preparation concerns to Walsall Council”

“I was really disappointed with my visit to Walsall Chai Wala today. I’ve visited Chai Wala branches in different parts of the country and have generally had a good experience, so today was particularly disappointing. I ordered the loaded doughnuts and a mango lassi. The doughnuts arrived and were great, but when I took a sip of the mango lassi, I immediately realised something wasn’t right. It had a very watery consistency and didn’t resemble the mango lassi I’ve had at other Chai Wala branches. I initially assumed I had simply been given the wrong drink. I went to the counter and explained this to one of the two young women working there. Rather than checking whether there had been a mistake, I was told, “Try it, it is.” I explained that I had already tried it and that it definitely wasn’t what I expected from a mango lassi. I was then told, “This is how Chai Wala make it.” My response was simply, “Do they?” Another member of staff then came over and also tried to convince me that the drink was supposed to be like this. I disagreed and explained that I’ve had mango lassi from Chai Wala before and this was completely different. Unfortunately, while this was happening, another customer approached the counter because they had also been given drinks that they hadn’t ordered. I witnessed the same dismissive and rude attitude towards them, which was disappointing to see. I was repeatedly told that refunds weren’t given. I stood my ground and eventually received a refund. I’m not sure what happened with the other customers. The issue wasn’t simply that the drink wasn’t what I expected — mistakes can happen. What really disappointed me was the way the situation was handled and the attitude of the staff when customers raised legitimate concerns. What a shame. Experiences like this can really damage the reputation of a brand that I’ve previously enjoyed visiting. I hope Chai Wala management takes this feedback seriously and looks into what happened at the Walsall branch today.”

“Very tasty toastie, pink chai and ‘limbu pani’ (lemon water). Toilet facilities were sparkling clean. Staff were busy but took our order swiftly once available. God bless, hope to visit again soon one day!”

“Don’t bother going here , ordered a matcha and mocktail. The mocktail tasted like water there was no flavour , when I asked them to add more flavour the staff member decided to argue against the situation and said the mocktail is “sparkling water” she proceeded to laugh in my face as I insisted she add some flavour to the mocktail. Drinks aren’t worth it and the customer service is horrible !”
