Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return most for the Sunday roast, with pork loin and beef singled out, generous trimmings and unlimited top ups of potatoes and vegetables. One server catered to a gluten allergy by swapping in extra veg at no charge. Close behind is the service, called friendly and welcoming by several, along with the decor after the refurbishment, the garden and a welcoming attitude to dogs, who get treats and water. Diners also name the French onion soup, mushroom arancini, pheasant, sausage rolls, sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble. The caveat is portion size and price. One reviewer received a single arancini and a duck dish of four thin strips with dauphinoise, and called it too expensive. Another left a little hungry after a small a la carte main and suggests ordering a side. A third felt the beef portion could have been bigger, and another found the prices a bit high. One notes that meat doneness is not asked, so it must be specified when ordering. Several mention a busy Sunday, and one advises booking.

“One of the best Sunday roast meals in the Essex area in my opinion… generous trimmings, unlimited top ups to potatoes and veggies. Very good service all round. Recommended. Sticky Toffee Pudding was fantastic too… 8.5/10 for me. Should be served with ice cream though.”

“The venue is really cosy and a little rugged, which adds to the charm and ambience of this restaurant! The food is excellent, well presented and good value. They also allow dogs here, in the bar area and in specific parts of the restaurant too, providing treats and water for your dogs! As for the staff, well they are the restaurant’s best asset, they were so friendly, attentive, and just could not do enough for you! This is a lovely restaurant, been numerous times now, and they are consistently good, and never disappoint! Well worth a visit! 😀”

“Had a fantastic meal here last night with my family. The refurb looks beautiful and the decor is perfectly chosen. Service was above and beyond. We had two waitresses looking after us called Beth and Amy who were so welcoming and friendly and knowledgeable about the food. The food was great as well but we would come back due to the fantastic service alone. The menu had a big choice and was suitable for GF and vegetarian as well as meat eaters. When the food arrived it looked like what you would expect from a fancy London restaurant and tasted as good as it looked. My photography skills don’t do it justice. Thanks for a great evening, we’ll be back very soon!”
