On Ongar Rd in Brentwood, The Rose & Crown is a pub with a restaurant, serving lunch, dinner and quick bites alongside a range of draught beers and ales. The menu runs from fish and chips to burgers and steaks, with a deconstructed pie among the mains and a lemon and lime posset to finish. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the friendly, attentive service and the food, which several call good value, with steaks, burgers and prawns named as highlights, along with a deconstructed pie and a lemon and lime posset. Large groups are a recurring strength: parties for a special birthday, a group of 12 fitted in at short notice, and a table of 20 for Sunday lunch, all served promptly with meals arriving together. One party hired the back room and terrace for a surprise birthday. The main criticism concerns the newer fine dining menu served from the evening. One diner found the trio of pork a small portion on a large plate, with no vegetables and a price far above the ingredients, and said the table wouldn't return if only that menu were offered. They preferred a traditional pub menu with fine dining dishes as specials. Another reviewer found the fish in the fish and chips lower in quality, though well prepared. The fish and chips ordered from the bar menu was served on a small plate that looked crowded once the chips came out of the basket.

“Met up with frieds here as it was halfway between us but a long way from where we both live so we'd never been. Really friendly and helpful staff and the food was really good. Well presented and great value for money.”

“Fantastic afternoon! Great food, brilliant service, and they were so helpful fitting in a big group at fairly short notice. We had a great space inside for 12 of us. Prompt, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. 100% recommend and will be booking again!”

“The rose and crown offered a very nice choice of Menu, especially with there being a 2 course for £20. I can fully recommend the deconstructed pie and the lemon and lime posses. We were served by Kasey who gave 100 per cent service, she was very polite and couldn't do enough for us. An asset to the pub. It was quite quiet when we arrived but it was quite early for a meal but it was a nice cosy atmosphere. Would definitely go again”

“We booked a table for Sunday lunch for 20 people, to celebrate a special birthday. The food and service were excellent. Our meals were all served at the same time and the food was lovely. Staff were very friendly and ensured we had everything we needed. Highly recommend. Thank you for a lovely afternoon!”

“Been here twice in the last month and both times have been brilliant. The staff are really friendly and attentive, especially Linda, Gill and Jake, who all looked after us really well. The food was spot on too. The prawns were amazing, and the steaks and burgers were great, especially for the price. Really nice local pub with a welcoming atmosphere. Would definitely come back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.”

“Vintage Pub & Fine Dining Restaurant. The Rose & Crown was formed on the ambition to create a warm and welcoming pub and restaurant where everyone is included. Over the years our building has taken many names, but today this historic pub and fine dining restaurant in the heart of Brentwood is a destination for exquisite food, a warm welcome and a wide range of draft beers and ales. We are family and dog friendly. Join us for lunch, dinner or just a quick bite. We are open 7 days a week and on Sunday we serve our traditional roast dinner.”
